FOOD 16 | SUNDAY • 25 AUGUST 2019 maltatoday For the caramel • 200g sugar • 90g salted / unsalted butter • 120ml heavy cream (can use double cream) • Salt For the bars • 1 cup unsalted butter • 1 cup icing sugar • Vanilla extract • 2 cups all purpose flour • Salt • Caramel that was made earlier • Melted chocolate (of your choice) The caramel 1. In a saucepan, add the sugar and melt. 2. Keep mixing the sugar at all times. 3. Once melted, add the butter and stir. 4. When melted, add the heavy cream slowly. 5. Let boil for a minute then turn off heat. 6. Let cool totally before using. The bars 1. Beat the butter with the sugar. 2. Add the vanilla extract to the mixture. 3. Add in the flour, salt and beat. 4. Bake in a pan covered lined with a baking sheet. 5. Bake at 200•C for 30 minutes (until golden) 6. Once baked, cool down totally. 7. Once cooled, add the caramel on top. 8. Chill that for a minimum of 1 hour, then add the melted chocolate and chill further. 9. Cut into slices and dig in!
