maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 28 AUGUST 2019 20 FOOTBALL SPORTS ROMELU Lukaku scored on his Serie A debut for Inter Milan as they convinc- ingly beat 10-man Lecce. The Belgian striker, signed by Inter for a club record 80m euros (£74m) from Manchester United on 8 August, tapped in the third goal in the 60th minute. Marcelo Brozovic curled Inter's opener and Stefano Sensi's drive made it 2-0. Antonio Candreva's 30-yard drive completed the victory after Leece's Diego farias had been sent off for a nasty looking challenge. Lukaku, who hit 42 goals in 96 games for United after joining from Everton for £75m in July 2017, has now scored on his league debut for each of his past four clubs. Inter boss Antonio Conte, who re- placed Luciano Spalletti in May, had identified Lukaku as a key summer target and was pleased with his star signing. "Romelu has entered the Inter world with great humility," Conte said. "He is ready to work for the team." "There was a spark, but now we must become dynamite," he added after overseeing a win for his first league game in charge. The 50-year-old Serb oversaw a 1-1 draw in Bologna's opening Serie A game of the season at Hellas Verona. Mihajlovic, who has vowed to "win this battle", is having chemotherapy. He promised his players he would be with them for the first game and he made it after spending the last 41 nights in hospital. According to reports in Italy, Mi- hajlovic has kept up to date with events at the club by watching live videos of training sessions from the cancer ward of the Sant'Orsola Hospital in Bologna. His official appearance was announced in a simple Twitter message by the club an hour before kick-off, while there were lots of messages of support - in- cluding one from Serie A rivals Napoli stating, "Forza Sinisa Mihajlovic". There were also chants of supports from the visiting fans when Mihajlovic, looking physically weak, came out with his team at the start of the game. The former Yugoslavia defender, who played for Roma, Sampdoria, Lazio and Inter Milan among others, returned to Bologna in January for his second spell in charge and guided them to a 10th place finish.
