maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 4 SEPTEMBER 2019 12 CULTURE SEPTEMBER 2019 will welcome an authentic experience to Malta for the first edition of the Oktoberfest Malta, showcasing an incredibly large amount of beer brands under one roof. No Oktoberfest is complete without barrels of beer. Expect more than 150 types of authen- tic beers from the most revered and respect- ed breweries across Germany, Europe and of course Malta. Malta's largest brewers and beer importers will welcome visitors with creamy, bubbly and gentle beer while also offering must-have mer- chandise and gifts. The event will also feature Malta's top craft beer importers and brewers. Local bands will be leading the frivolities and celebrations with the best traditional entertain- ment and mainstream music. Visitors will be also invited to engage in all manner of music and exciting fun games to thrill the young and adults. A special family-friendly fun park will be set up and includes children rides of all sorts, ani- mation, inflatables and vendors selling a variety of crafts, toys and tantalising sweets. The Malta Oktoberfest will be held at Mon- tekristo Estates between Friday 20 and Satur- day 21 September from 6pm onwards and a full day from 4pm onwards on Sunday 22 Septem- ber 2019. Not your ordinary beer festival HERITAGE Malta will open Fort St Angelo for a reduced price of €2 on the occasion of Victory Day, on 8th Septem- ber, for what has become a traditional appointment. This year's event will involve a pro- gramme covering the whole day from 9am to 6pm whilst the Fort will be one of the several fortresses around Europe chosen for this year's European Fortress Day. A number of activities will be organ- ised on the day. Two masses will be cel- ebrated. One starts at 10.00am at the Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin and after the mass, a commemoration of the Victory of the Great Siege will be held at the Great Siege monument with the participation of the National Festivi- ties Committee and the Cospicua Scout Group. The other mass will start at 12pm at the Chapel of St Anne in the upper part of Fort St Angelo managed by the Sover- eign Military Order of Malta which will be open to the general public through- out the day. Visitors can admire the recently re- stored naval shipmast. During the day re-enactment groups, Show of Arms, the Historical Re-enact- ment Group of Malta, the Malta Histori- cal Fencing Association, Battlefront Liv- ing History Group and Malta Command will animate the site with their activities while there will be also a Birds of Prey display by Fridericus Rex Malta Falcon- ers. This will also be the last chance to visit the temporary exhibition, 'Behind Closed Doors Fort St Angelo & the Roy- al Navy 1906-1979' which will close on the day. A Curator's tour of this exhibi- tion in English starts at 12pm and an- other one in Maltese at 3pm. The Royal Naval Association (Malta) will also be present and visitors can meet several of these veterans on site who will be joined by the Malta Sea Cadets. The exhibition's catalogue will also be avail- able at a discounted price of just €10. In the afternoon, at 2pm, thanks to the fort's strategic position at the tip of Vittoriosa, visitors can also view the tra- ditional Regatta held every year in the Grand Harbour. Fort St Angelo will open between 9am and 6pm, with last admission at 5.30pm, for the price of €2 per person. Children under 12 years and Heritage Malta members enter for free.
