Both government sources and the Caruana Galizia family have confirmed that the intention is for the meeting to take place. Joseph Muscat will be attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York next week, with the meeting expected to be held once he is back in Malta the week after the next. The public inquiry, which was an- nounced by the government on Friday night, is to be presided over by Judge Emeritus Michael Mallia, and will also be composed of constitutional expert Professor Ian Refalo and forensics ex- pert Anthony Abela Medici. Shortly after the announcement, however, the Caruana Galizia family requested to meet Muscat over con- cerns about the board's composition. Matthew Caruana Galizia, writing on Facebook yesterday, elaborated on the concerns, asking how Refalo, "a lawyer defending the interests of Keith Schembri and Adrian Hillman", could possibly be a part of the inquiry. He also said Abela Medici's qualifica- tions were completely inadequate for the purposes of carrying out the in- quiry. PILATUS BANK MFSA investigation handed to police LAMPUKI WARS MATTHEW VELLA MALTA'S financial regulator and the Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit have completed a lengthy "transaction-by-trans- action" review at Pilatus Bank, and presented its findings to the police. The extensive review had been launched by both the MFSA and the FIAU before the US indict- ment of Ali Sadr Hasheminejad on charges of breaching sanc- tions against Iran, in February 2018. The review was meant to pro- vide a robust assessment of the now-shuttered bank's actions and – as stated by MFSA direc- tor-general Marianne Scicluna to MEPs – to "get to the bottom of allegations and concerns as to whether money laundering was carried out in the bank".
