M8 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 22 SEPTEMBER 2019 MOTORING MALTA Classic has launched its 2019 events in a press conference held on Fri- day at Salini Resort, Salini. The press conference was addressed by Malta Classic's brand ambassador and commentator, Patrick Young, Mal- ta Classic's Operations Director Pamela Said, SportMalta CEO Mark Cutajar and Salini Hotel's Resort and Business Development Director, Philippe Lonfat. The top table speakers inaugurated the four-day event in its 12th edition being held between the 10th and 13th Octo- ber this year. Thursday 10 October will see clas- sic cars racing up the hills of Mtaħleb with views over the Mediterranean Sea. Some of the world's most prestig- ious cars will be showcased against the historic backdrop of St Peter's Square, at the Mdina Concours d'Elegance on Friday 11. The exhilarating races around the for- tified walls of the Silent City and the centrepiece of Malta Classic 2019 will follow with The Mdina Grand Prix tak- ing place on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 October. Categorised by speed, power and era, over 75 pre-1975 iconic classic cars will take to the Mdina Circuit in a race to the finish line. Young said that thousands of specta- tors will experience the Mdina Grand Prix in a new dimension thanks to a new sponsor, Hands on systems, providing a new GPS Tracking system on all driver vehicles, allowing for real time tracking and reporting at all times. Malta's Classic's Operations Director announced some rare and iconic classic cars taking part and coming over from international locales including a 1965 ISO Bizzarrini A3C, a 1937 pre-war Delahaye, a 1964 Porsche 356 Coupe, a Barquetta Osca S1 500, a 1965 Porsche 911 and a 1950's Jaguar XK 120 Road- ster of which have been also famed for their successes in other races and cham- pionships around the world. "We are grateful to the drivers of local iconic cars that have continued to sup- port this event for over a decade, mak- ing it a national cultural tradition – A celebration of vintage style and speed," Said said. "It is fantastic to see the Grand Prix in action, for our thousands of spectators to enjoy and witness classic cars from Malta and overseas going head to head in a circuit around the island's most an- cient city."
