COMMERCIAL 20 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 29 SEPTEMBER 2019 HARVEST, the group of tech- nology businesses within 1923 Investments plc, has appointed Godwin Caruana as its new Chief Executive Officer. Harvest is a multi-discipli- nary group comprising IT solutions provider PTL, pay- ment gateway specialist APCO Systems, and automation and security company APCO Ltd. Caruana, until recently Chief Technology Officer at 1923 Investments, will co-ordinate the formulation of the group's renewed strategy and outline the technical vision for Har- vest and its subsidiaries in light of emerging technologies and best practice. As CEO, he has also been tasked with ensuring Harvest and its subsidiaries re- main at the forefront of tech- nology and innovation. As Harvest pursues growth, Caruana will examine the po- tential of Harvest's acquisition pipeline and conduct the tech- nical due diligence of any pro- spective acquisition. "I have had the pleasure of working with Godwin for a few years and I have always enjoyed his dry wit and team-build- ing spirit," Professor Juanito Camilleri, Harvest Chairman, said. "His profound insight and troubleshooting skills on technical matters related to a broad spectrum of ICT disci- plines is an invaluable asset to our group. I am delighted he has assumed the role of CEO of Harvest." Caruana is a post-graduate from the University of Liv- erpool and the University of Brunel, where he graduated Master of Science in Informa- tion Technology, and PhD with a research focus on High Per- formance Computing, Algo- rithms and Machine Learning. A visiting Senior Lecturer at the University of Malta, Caru- ana has published extensively. In 2018, he spearheaded the establishment of the Harvest Technology Academy in part- nership with the University of Malta and the Faculty of Eco- nomics, Management and Ac- countancy in a bid to bridge the gap between the professional and academic spheres. Earlier in his career, Caruana served as Chief Technology Officer at the Malta Information Tech- nology Agency (MITA) during which time he contributed to numerous high-profile pro- jects.
