The selection has a nice balance of new Maltese works together with some of the best touring shows, including five commissions by foremost lo- cal artists, five co-productions with national public cultural organisations, and no less than eleven international projects from around the globe. The 2019 Festival programme ini- tiatives vary from a brand new promenade music theatre show which will also tour schools, to a daring contemporary circus act, award-winning films, an opera with loads of humour, a re-adaptation of an iconic lit- erature classic, and a number of outdoor happenings. Visit https://www.ziguzajg.org/ for more information. 2-3NOVEMBER Comic Con Malta The Malta Comic Con (MCC) is a 2 day event which celebrates comic creators, comic books, books, movies, TV series, table top games, video games, role playing games, cosplaying and virtually anything that is re- lated to the comic culture. The Festival celebrates the wonder of books through a wide programme of family-friendly activities – including book launches and presentations, poetry and lit- erature readings, meetings with authors, dramatisations of lit- erary texts, and conferences and seminars. The festival also offers extensive networking opportunities for profession- als in the book world. This year round, one of the highlights of the Festival is the opening conference revolving around the literary genres of sci-fi and fantasy. The conference will be led by a number of local and overseas authors. Among them is Loranne Vella, the Brussels based author of Rokit (Mer- lin Publishers) and winner of the 2018 National Book Prize. The fesival will take place at the Mediterranean Conference Centre. For more information about the Malta Book Festival, visit https://ktieb.org.mt/na- tional-book-festival/ Music 14 NOVEMBER Operetta Highlights Bulgarian-born soprano An- driana Yordanova will grace the Refectory at Palazzo Falson to sing vivacious excerpts from some of the well-loved operet- tas that are entertaining, satiri- cal and witty. She will be singing delightful arias from the famous operettas 'Giuditta' 'The Merry Widow' and 'Paganini' all writ- ten by the composer Franz Lehár and other wonderful songs by celebrated composers such as Richard Straus and Robert Stolz, amongst others. Andriana Yor- danova will be accompanied by cellist Lucie Kucharova and vio- linist Philipp Orlov. The recital will be held on Thursday 14th November at 6.30pm. Entrance to the concert is at a suggested donation of 10 euro and patrons are invited to visit the museum at a discounted price. Get set to channel your 1970s disco vibe at Mal- ta's favourite party destination, in a one-night-only event that will feature the world-famous Bee Gees tribute band, the Sat- urday Night Bee Gees. Other UNTIL 31 OCTOBER English Cafe: Make friends & speak English The most popular meet-up event in Malta for anybody who wants to make friends, is back and it's the perfect place to ex- plore new cultures and prac- tise spoken English. Meet-ups are held every Thursday from 7.30pm. No booking is required. On average, 150 participants from all ages, nationalities and all levels of English attend the meet-up.
