By means of a Sworn Application presented in the First Hall Civil Court in the names Valhmor Borg Import Export Limited (C 3062) vs SM (Marketing) as the principal debtor company and Stephen Galea and Mark Bezzina as sureties together and in solidum with the principal debtor company on the 5th December 2018, the applicant company Valhmor Borg Import Export Limited (C 3062) asked this Honourable Court: 1. To decide without proceeding to a hearing in terms of Articles 167-171 of the Code of Organisation and Civil Procedure; 2. To condemn the respondents together and in solidum to pay the global balance amounting to twenty-ve thousand seven hundred fty-six euro and seven cents (Euro 25,756.07) together with legal interest to run from the 28th February, 2017, till the date of eective payment. In a letter to Transport Minis- ter Ian Borg, Callus said that in the months that he had occupied his role on the Lands Author- ity board, he had become aware of the authority's capture by the state. "In my eyes, this is not an independent authority as the Opposition would expect of the administrator of our country's lands," he said in his letter, cop- ied to Opposition leader Adrian Delia. The board of governors of the Lands Authority was created as a part of the reform of the lands regulators, after the Old Mint Street scandal had forced the resignation of then lands minis- ter Michael Falzon. The former Lands Department was turned into a regulatory authority with a board of governors chaired by Judge Emeritus Lino Farrugia Sacco to oversee decisions taken by the authority. Callus is the second PN MP to resign from a regulatory author- ity in two days. "The government still appoints seven out of ten governors," Cal- lus said in his statement. In a statement released by the PN, the Opposition claimed that Lands CEO, James Piscopo, was too close to Prime Minister Jo- seph Muscat and his Chief of Staff Keith Schembri. In a reaction, transport minister Ian Borg accused the PN of dam- aging the institutions with politi- cal games. "The issue here is that the Opposition lacks credibility. Only on 29 October, during his speech in parliament, Callus disa- greed with another Nationalist MP who said the parties should not have their representations on the planning and lands board, saying that as a board member he could ensure transparency." PN MP Ryan Callus resigns from Lands Authority board JAMES DEBONO CONSTRUCTION group Bilom has presented plans for a new road linking Triq il-Pluviera to Triq L-Isponsun in Fgura, which would pave the way for new residential development on a 4,535sq.m site, which is presently one of the few green lungs of the densely populated locality. The land in question includes 28 citrus trees, 12 evergreen trees, three cypress trees, a fig tree and a large number of prickly pear trees. The proposed road link will lead to the demo- lition of a century-old farmhouse known as ir- Razzett ta' Spiru, which presently defines the area, and will result in the uprooting of a num- ber of trees. Bilom does not own the land in question but the owners of the land have signed 'no objection' letters. The site is designated for residential de- velopment in the local plan approved in 2006 but in the absence of the new road development will be limited by policies which limit the depth of any proposed development to 30m to the pre- sent road alignment. Residents who spoke to MaltaToday pointed out that no new road is required to serve the public, as there is an existing road few meters away. "This road will only help developers de- velop the area.
