She will be singing delightful arias from the famous operettas 'Giuditta', 'The Merry Wid- ow' and 'Paganini', all writ- ten by the composer Franz Lehár, and other wonderful songs by celebrated compos- ers such as Richard Straus and Robert Stolz, amongst others. Andriana Yordanova will be accompanied by cellist Lu- cie Kucharova and violinist Philipp Orlov. The recital will be held on Thursday 14th November at 6.30pm. Entrance to the con- cert is at a suggested donation of 10 euro and patrons are invited to visit the museum at a discounted price. Seating is limited and booking is re- quired by sending an email to baroccomalta@gmail.com or bookings@palazzofalson.com or call on 21454512. 16 NOVEMBER MCO Pop, Rock & Soul On 16 November , singers Nev- ille Refalo, Joe Piscopo, Mike Spiteri and Cheryl Balzan will join on stage PTR's own Malta Concert Orchestra. Fresh from spectacular concerts through- out 2018 (such as MCO Pop, Suċċessi Maltin, L-Għanja tal- Poplu | Festival tal-Kanzunetta Maltija and MCO Pink October Concert to mention but a few) the Malta Concert Orchestra – conducted by Maestro Joe Brown – will continue to im- press with its versatility this time with the best of Pop, Rock and Soul, featuring music by Pink Floyd, Michael Jackson, Joe Cocker, The Beatles, Tina Turner and more. This concert will be held in- doors at the Teatru Istitut Kat- toliku in Floriana. Students and senior citizens may benefit from special discounts for the November 16 concert. Festivals TODAY The Malta Book Festival The Malta Book Festival is an annual cultural event held in Valletta, Malta. The Festival celebrates the wonder of books through a wide programme of family-friendly activities – in- cluding book launches and presentations, poetry and lit- erature readings, meetings with authors, dramatisations of lit- erary texts, and conferences and seminars. The festival also offers extensive networking op- portunities for professionals in the book world. This year round, one of the highlights of the festival is the opening conference revolving around the literary genres of sci-fi and fantasy. The confer- ence will be led by a number of local and overseas authors. Among them is Loranne Vella, the Brussels based author of Rokit (Merlin Publishers) and winner of the 2018 National Book Prize. The festival will take place at the Mediterranean Conference Centre. The selection has a nice balance of new Mal- tese works together with some of the best touring shows, in- cluding five commissions by foremost local artists, five co-productions with national public cultural organisations, and no less than eleven inter- national projects from around the globe. The 2019 Festival pro- gramme initiatives vary from a brand new promenade mu- sic theatre show which will also tour schools, to a dar- ing contemporary circus act, award-winning films, an op- era with loads of humour, a re-adaptation of an iconic literature classic, and a num- ber of outdoor happenings. This year's edition, featuring a strong environmental mes- sage for young and old, prom- ises to enchant children as well as those young at heart. Theatre 11 NOVEMBER Iljieli fit-Teatru Series Following an extensively busy summer season, Pjazza Teatru Rjal continues to pro- vide refreshing and varied musical events also through the winter months. On No- vember 11, as part of the Iljieli fit-Teatru Series set in the inti- mate setting of the PTR Green Room, Malta Philharmonic Orchestra resident conduc- tor Michael Laus on the piano and MPO principal viola Na- dia Debono team up to offer a truly special evening featuring the two Sonatas for Viola and Piano by Johannes Brahms.
