18 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 10 NOVEMBER 2019 COMMERCIAL BEYOND the podium, the real winners from the annual edition of the Żurrieq Half Marathon and 10km run and walk being spon- sored by Express Trailers, are the young children and athletes who are benefitting from the Club's Kids Academy and a Youth De- velopment Programme. "We are happy to see this event grow from year to year. But what counts more is that through our support to the Żurrieq Wolves Athletic Club we are leaving an important legacy," says Franco Azzopardi, Chairman and CEO of Express Trailers. This year's edition of the Ex- press Trailers Żurrieq Half Mara- thon, 10km Run and 10km Walk will be held on Sunday 10th No- vember. With almost 1,500 par- ticipants, this event, organised by the Malta Marathon Organising Committee in collaboration with the Żurrieq Local Council and Żurrieq Wolves Athletic Club is today regarded as the second largest road running event after the Malta Marathon. "Knowing that today, the club has a Kids Academy and a Youth Development Programme with professional coaches that are helping children and youths adopt a much healthier lifestyle and an outlook that favours more inclusion, is a source of pride for us. Our sponsorship is a celebra- tion of this achievement," added Franco Azzopardi. Perhaps a major milestone for Żurrieq Wolves Athletic Club this year is its support to para- lympic athlete Antonio Flores, Malta's only blade runner, who is currently training and preparing himself to be able to qualify for next year's Paralympics in Tokyo 2020. "Standing up on the podium is always an achievement that goes celebrated but ultimately, the message behind our sponsorship is that we are lending support to a Club that is fostering more in- clusion, better mentoring and a lifestyle built on a healthy sport ethic," added Franco Azzopardi. Express Trailers remains also committed to promoting the im- portance of road safety on Mal- ta's roads where runners and cy- clists remain amongst the most vulnerable amongst road users. "We have a heavy presence on Malta's roads with our trucks and trailers and although we are doing a necessary job by trans- porting food, pharma and cargo for the local market consump- tion, at Express Trailers we also acknowledge that our fleet puts a burden on all the other road us- ers, especially the more vulner- able ones such as runners and cy- clists. Therefore, by supporting this growing road race, we are trying to redress this imbalance." "We are also pleased with the fact that the organisers of the Express Trailers Żurrieq Half Marathon have kept investing to ensure the highest levels of safety on the roads during the event. We are happy to note that this year, the organisers have recon- firmed the presence of qualified doctors, three ambulances along the route, all manned with a doc- tor each, wardens at every corner and an ambulance and a first aid team at the start and finish of the race," concluded Franco Azzo- pardi.
