13 maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 27 NOVEMBER 2019 CULTURE THE Thomas Smith Annual Charity swim, a much- awaited annual event and now in its 21st year, will once again be held off the pier by Independence Garden, Slie- ma, on the 29th of December, under the patronage of the Office of the President. The aim of the yearly Charity swim is to encourage the public to participate and raise as many funds as possible in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation. On the day, registration starts at 09.30hrs and the swim is to commence at 1030hrs. Participants have to fill in a registration form at one of the desk points – one on the promenade and a smaller one by the swimmer zone. Alternatively, beat the queues by downloading the registration form in advance, fill it in and bring it to the desk on the day. A registration form for minors can also be downloaded. Visit www.tcsmith.com/christmas-charity-swim/ for full details. Any contribution is welcome, however, we encourage swimmers to raise €50 prior to the swim. Encourage friends, family and colleagues to join you or ask them to sponsor your heroic gesture with a donation to help you raise more money. Medals are awarded to each participant personally by The President of Malta once the swim is over, to mark the act of kindness. Coffee, whiskey and sandwiches are distributed to help swimmers get their vigour back. In 2018, 233 swimmers of all ages braved the wind, jelly fish, and cold winter sea in Sliema to raise funds for charitable causes. Ever since its inception, Thomas Smith Group together with the Charity Swim donations have collected just over €120,000! Thomas Smith aims to collect even more funds this year and is once again encouraging more swimmers to brave the cold waters. Those who cannot attend the Christmas Charity Swim but still would like to donate can forward their contri- bution via bank transfer to the following account: HSBC Bank (Malta) plc, 32, Merchants Street, Valletta. Account No.: 033-080037-002; Swift Code: MMEBMTMT; IBAN No: MT MT04MMEB44336000000033080037002. The chilly challenge in aid of charity FROM yesterday, and running until Friday, Heritage Malta is inviting senior citizens to visit the national-communi- ty art museum MUŻA to participate in an intriguing event which involves the sharing of narratives. Gone are the days when visitors were expected to stand in awe and in si- lence at museums. Visitors are now invited to engage with museums in order to understand better the collective cultural heritage. Events are organised to foster dia- logue, curiosity and self-reflection, while museum spaces are utilised to exchange stories of past and present. The event 'Stories at the Museum' intends to inspire the participants through two specific artworks that can ignite conversation. Initially examining and sharing the stories which these paintings can tell, participants will then be encouraged to dwell on particular episodes which they have lived throughout their lives and to share them with others. In this way, the museum will serve to give voice to its audience. The workshop will be followed by a coffee break and a museum tour which will focus on the stories discussed. Price is set at €3 per person. The event will run from 9.30am to noon. Booking for these events can be done at Heritage Malta's museums and sites or online. Stories at the museum
