29 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 8 DECEMBER 2019 SPORTS FOOTBALL Sliema Wanderers come from behind to beat Birkirkara SLIEMA Wanderers turned de- feat into victory and registered a third consecutive win by defeating Birkirkara 2-1 at the Hibernians Stadium. This was a win which enabled the Blues to move eighth on 14 points, together with Gudja, one point ahead of Birkirkara and Mosta and two ahead of Senglea Athletic. Birkirkara, on the other hand, suffered another setback in their bid to climb further up the table as they are now back in tenth place. It was Birkirkara who created the first danger when Prado had a beautiful shot parried by Sliema Wanderers custodian Jake Galea. Caio Henrique Prado put the Stripes ahead on the 40th minute when after served from youngster Matthew Guillaumier, he placed the ball at the back of the net with a delicious lob. But Sliema Wander- ers made an immediate reaction and only two minutes after man- aged to equalise the score when Jean Paul Farrugia had the better of Birkirkara goalie Andrew Hogg and with a diagonal shot from an ideal position managed to score. Birkirkara missed a goal-scoring opportunity on the 60th minute when Prado served Federico Fal- cone but the latter didn't manage to connect with the ball through a header. Finally, Juri Cisotti notched the winner for Siema Wanderers on the 75th minute with a strong shot from distance which gave Andrew Hogg no chance.
