maltatoday | SUNDAY • 22 DECEMBER 2019 5 THIS WEEK MUSIC local jazz scene ports the listener into another world. I hope this album will help the listener get absorbed into the arrangements of the new version of these tunes, en- joy the engaging rhythms and the modern and experimental soundscapes it offers. Moreover, the Maltese lan- guage is given its due impor- tance, reminiscing tunes of the past, and offering an ele- ment of nostalgia throughout. Listeners can also experience originality in the production of specific tracks, not only in the specific sounds created for the tracks; but also two particular tracks where apart from the voice, the accompaniment was created using only one instru- ment. One track which stands out is for example 'Rajt Raġel', which is made up solely ofdou- ble bass and vocals. What do you make of the local musical scene? What would you change about it? The local music scene has grown and we are seeing new artists that are producing very interesting and engaging ma- terial. I am fond of a couple of bands, especially in the al- ternative scene, and especially those bands that write their own music with lyrics in Mal- tese. I would love to see more support, promotion and ex- posure for these bands, on all fronts, and especially with re- spect to radio play. What's next for you? We'll be organising a couple of (intimate) gigs at Offbeat Music Bar in Valletta in which we'll be performing the album tracks, especially for those who couldn't make it to the album's launch concert. This will be happening around Jan- uary or February, and the final dates will be announced on my Facebook fan page. I am also working to secure a couple of gigs abroad, so as to promote the album with jazz lovers be- yond our shores. Il-Ħoss tal-Għabex is avail- able on CD and vinyl from selected local outlets.
