maltatoday | SUNDAY • 22 DECEMBER 2019 21 COMMERCIAL 13 Excellent turnout at Frank Salt Real Estate's Rent Reform Information Seminars FR ANK Salt Real Estate has recently organised a num- ber of information seminars for landlords interested in finding out more about the changes in the regulations governing rentals that will come into force in January 2020. Held over a week in vari- ous venues across Malta and Gozo the seminars attracted over a thousand participants from across Malta and Gozo. The seminars were organ- ised in collaboration with Joinwell and offered attend- ees the opportunity to under- stand better how the rent re- form will effect both existing and new lease agreements, the procedure to register such contracts, as well as clarify any individual circum- stances they had. Dr Ian J Stafrace, from Sali- ba Stafrace Legal and Doug- las Salt, from Frank Salt Real Estate delivered the presenta- tions. Aimed at bringing stability to the sector, the new rent regulations include amongst other measures mandatory registration for all private rental properties, as well as minimum and maximum rental periods for long lets and short lets. The new rules also set a minimum 3-month notice for landlords to inform their tenants if the contract will be renewed or not. An an- nual rental increase capping is also being introduced. No limits have been set on rent payable, however once a lease contract has been entered in- to between the landlord and the tenant, the annual rental increases will be restricted to up to 5%. The new rent rules apply to all rental contracts signed as from January 2020. They also apply to any existing rental contracts entered into after June 1995 that are still in ef- fect in January 2021. This is the third consecutive year that LifeCycle is funding the data base and waiting list man- agement programme of patients active on the Kidney Transplant waiting list. Traccia is based on an algorithm subjected to sever- al requisites which is frequently updated. Blood samples are taken peri- odically from patients that are active on the kidney waiting list, along with other important information, so that the right match for the renal patient com- patible with the kidney donor is achieved. "This is an advancement in organ transplantation in Malta. Until recent years, the waiting list management was based on the patient's waiting time. Now that all dynamics are being con- sidered together with tissue typ- ing, Traccia provides the best possible match, irrelevant from the waiting time only approach," said Prof Emanuel Farrugia, Consultant and Head of the Re- nal Unit at Mater Dei Hospital. "Our Nescafé 3in1 LifeCycle Challenge is supported by the generous donations of indi- viduals, businesses and our title sponsor Nescafé 3in1. We fund the running costs of this soft- ware programme and we are grateful to learn that a number of patients have received a kid- ney transplant after their blood composition was compatible with the donated organ," said LifeCycle Founder Alan Curry.
