S2 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 22 DECEMBER 2019 ELDERLY CARE CAREMALTA has signed off a Memorandum of Under- standing with the Ministry for Education and Employ- ment last September to give students aged between 13 and 16 studying Health and Social Care exposure through CareMalta's long term care facilities. This agreement is part of a larger government project called 'My Journey', where other optional subjects are being introduced, with vocational courses being given practice placements with a hands-on approach for ex- perience in the workplace. Students currently studying Health and Social Care are now able to explore different departments of Care- Malta's care homes to get a better understanding of the practical side of their studies. Students from dif- ferent schools are currently visiting CareMalta homes accompanied by their teachers to meet with various professionals and observe them while at work. Initially the students attended an introductory session held by management and were given tours of the facilities be- fore being assigned roles within the different depart- ments. The students also had the opportunity to meet with the residents and various activities are being organised during each session such as Christmas craft activities, discussions about the importance of exercise as well as the impact of Technology on the Elderly to mention a few. The students appreciated the opportunity to dis- cuss and evaluate the topics being discussed in real life scenarios and are very eager to continue learning and participating in future discussions and events. Care- Malta is proud to be able to teach the future genera- tion through its facilities with the help and support of professionals, management and staff.
