maltatoday | SUNDAY • 19 JANUARY 2020 18 COMMERCIAL APS Bank supports Greentrips APS Bank has supported the Malta Sustainable Mobility Chal- lenge – Greentrips, who have or- ganised a nationwide challenge, where commuters were recog- nised and rewarded for their positive mobility behaviour. The platform aims to change travel behaviour in Malta to- wards more sustainability, as Malta today is facing prob- lems with high traffic volume, parking shortage, deteriorating environmental conditions and public health concerns attrib- utable to CO2 emissions and other pollutants from trans- port. The first challenge in October 2019 attracted about 40 par- ticipants and Marco Krueger was announced the winner, as he used a total of five different green modes of transport, be- ing the most multimodal par- ticipant overall. The award of €350 was presented to Krueger by Hervé Delpech, Chief Strat- egy Officer at APS Bank, who commented that, "We are hon- oured to be supporting such a challenge, especially since it is in line with our value to pro- mote sustainability." If you are committed to sus- tainability sign up to the Malta Sustainability Forum Manifes- to: www.maltasustainabilityfo- rum.com/manifesto. You can also visit www.paf.mt and greentrips.eu for more infor- mation. Employees were encouraged to purchase non-per- ishable food items and place them in boxes purposely prepared for this initiative at BNF Bank branches and Head Office. The Bank started off the initiative with its own food donation, whilst December's staff dress down initiative #YourCause, was also dedicated for the col- lection of funds for the Foodbank, supplementary to the calendar initiative. "A growing number of families and individuals in Malta are facing the challenge of rounding up enough money to buy staple food," said Alison Grech, Head of Human Resources at BNF Bank. "Through this initi- ative, we have come to appreciate our fortunes while thinking of others and stretching out a helping hand." The Foodbank feeds between 30 to 80 families a week. The service provides non-perishable emergency sev- en-day nutritionally balanced food packs to individuals, couples or families who are struggling to find money for food. Families in need are referred by Appoġġ, child protection, mental health and oncology teams, Caritas, Sedqa, parishes and similar entities. "The Foodbank does not feed people long-term," said Jane Mizzi, Board Member at the Foodbank Lifeline Foundation. "It works with government organisations and charities to seek other long-term solutions. Our volunteers work tirelessly to plan, organise, collect food, sort it into packs and distribute them. Our oper- ating costs run in the region of €3,000 to €4,000 a week. We thank BNF Bank, you have taken on board our pri- mary annual campaign to help raise awareness about the cause and assist those who desperately need it." DURING the recent holiday season, Malta Property Auc- tioneers launched its "6 Days of Giving" programme. This initiative saw the team visit several different organisa- tions in Malta whose focus is on helping the homeless as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility profile "Over the years, we have successfully helped thou- sands of people find a home, but we are entirely aware that there are many out there who cannot afford the luxury of a roof over their heads. This was our opportunity to help just some of those people in ways we normally couldn't do with our day to day work and a way for us all to recognise the hard work these organisa- tions do to improve the lives of so many individuals", says Sarah De Cesare Dunkerley, Co-Head of Malta Property Auctioneers. Malta Property Auctioneers volunteered with several or- ganisations who facilitate the care and support needed for the homeless in Malta. Throughout the month of December, the company visited Dar Tal-Providenza, the YMCA, Salesian Youth Centre, Caritas San Blas, and Tomasina Cat Sanctuary to assist by cooking meals, gar- dening, cleaning and sorting laundry. Malta Property Auctioneers had made a public appeal to help however possible and collected donations at their offices in Ta'Xbiex, which were distributed to the or- ganisations during their vis- its.
