Open day at Borg in-Nadur
ON Sunday, 26 January, Herit-
age Malta is inviting the pub-
lic to an Open Day which will
be held at the prehistoric site
of Borg in-Nadur in Birzebbu-
ga. Admission will be free of
charge.
The landscape of Birzebbuga
has always intrigued archaeol-
ogists, due to its richness in ar-
chaelogical remains and sites,
including Għar Dalam and the
Roman villa at Ta' Kaccatura.
Around 500m away from
Għar Dalam, situated high be-
tween two valleys and over-
looking St George's Bay, one
finds also the megalitihic site of
Borg in-Nadur. The site was in
use during both the late Tem-
ple Period (3,150 – 2,500 BC)
and the Bronze Age (2,400 –
700 BC).
Archaeological excavations
that were done on site by ar-
chaeologist Margaret Murray
in the 1920s provided signifi-
cant information which shed
further light on the difference
between the Temple Age and
the Bronze Age.
The public can learn more
about this site during a number
of guided tours which are being
organised during the day. At
10am and 2pm, the guided tour
will be in Maltese, whereas at
noon and at 4pm, the guided
tour will be in English. A max-
imum of 25 persons can join
each tour. The opening hours
for this event are from 9am un-
til 5pm.
