12 maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 29 JANUARY 2020 CULTURE FEDS, a Maltese singer and songwriter based in London is partnering with ZAAR to crowd- fund her debut EP release later on this year. She will be collab- orating with both Maltese local and London creatives and talent. The crowdfunding campaign will be going live today at www. zaar.com.mt/projects/FedsDe- butEP with Feds aiming to re- ceive €6,000 within 40 days. The purpose for the fund is help the Maltese artist release her music locally as well as on an international level, making sure every single person in- volved in the project is paid for their work. The project consists of re- cording, mixing and mastering; pr (marketing campaign); logo design; artwork design; press and artwork photoshoot; music video; and radio plugging. All funding through this cam- paign will complement the sav- ings Feds has personally put into the project. The EP will consist of four or five juicy songs which togeth- er summarise the rollercoaster of experiences Feds has gone through since moving to Lon- don - fusing her love for elec- tronic pop production, singer songwriter lyrics and jazzy gui- tar sounds. Feds has been writing and producing the tracks that will feature on the EP over the last year. Anyone who contributes can benefit from a wide range of personalised rewards. Includ- ing personalised thank you's, free pre-release song down- loads, art pieces by @doodlesh- moodle, gig tickets and access to exclusive live performances. Bernice Sammut Attard piano recital ON Sunday 1 March, The Mediterranean Conference Centre will be presenting a a piano recital by 19-year old Bernice Sam- mut Attard, one of Malta's leading young musicians. The programme consists of works by Beethoven, Granados, Chopin, Schu- mann and Wagner/Liszt. She is the winner of the Malta Eurovi- sion Young Musicians 2018 competition and represented Malta in Edinburgh in the same year, giving an 18-min recital which was broadcast live and watched by around five million people - a per- formance which was highly praised amongst many local and foreign musi- cians. Pianist and violinist Bernice, is cur- rently in her second year of her Bache- lor of Music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Glasgow, studying with Prof. Fali Pavri. Previously, she stud- ied piano and violin as a joint principal study with Duncan Glenday and Ruth Hahn respectively at Chetham's School of Music (Manchester 2016-2018). She was the first Maltese to attend this prestigious music school. Bernice com- menced her piano studies at an early age with Karen Briscoe and violin with Marcelline Agius. She has performed in many countries including the UK, Poland, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Russia, Ar- menia and Kazakhstan. In 2017, she was a finalist in the Chetham's Bosendorfer competition and in the same year she was awarded second prize in the Mal- ta International Music Competition together with an honourable mention prize in violin and joint 3rd Prize and joint best Maltese pianist in the Malta International Piano Competition. Last year Bernice performed the Grieg Piano Concerto with four orchestras - the North Caucasus Orchestra, the Eurasian Symphony Orchestra, Ryazan Symphony Orchestra and the Astra- khan Symphony of the Astrakhan Op- era and Ballet Theatre - collaborating with conductors Alexei Galea Cavallaz- zi, Mikhail Kirchhoff, Sergey Oselkov and William Garfield Walker. These concerts were organised by the Euro- pean Foundation for support of Culture as part of the "Days of Maltese Music" programme in Armenia, Kazakhstan and Russia. She participated in master classes and lessons with renowned pianists includ- ing Vladimir Ovchinnikov, Mikhail Petukhov, Einar Steen-Nokleberg, Christopher Elton, Craig Sheppard, Robin McCabe, Michael Lewin, An- na Górecka, Ingo Dannhorn, Stephen Coombs, Jeremy Carter, Nicholas Asht- on, John Perry, Aaron Shorr, Petras Ge- niusas, Sinae Lee, BingBing Li, Graeme McNaught and Christian Ihle Hadland amongst others. Bernice has also had masterclasses with violinists: Nicola Benedetti, Natalia Lomeiko, Sigyn Fos- snes, Andrea Gajic and Leland Chen amongst others.
