Home handyman service The Home Handyman Service aims to provide maintenance and repairs as- sistance to senior citizens and persons with special needs so that they can live as independently as possible in their own home. Active ageing centres The Active Ageing Centres offer op- portunities for older adults to interact with each other and to remain physi- cally, mentally and socially active. Silver-t service The Silver-T Service consists of local transport for older persons to conduct their daily errands within the commu- nity, without having to depend on their families and friends. This service is currently being offered in Żurrieq, Safi, Gżira, Ta' Xbiex, Msi- da, Mosta, Burmarrad, Rabat, Baħrija and Mtarfa, provided from Monday to Friday, between 7am and 2pm. Valletta scooters The Valletta Scooter Service consists of renting of an electric scooter for free to older persons with mobility difficul- ties to conduct their errands within the Valletta precincts for a maximum of three hours, without having to depend on their families or friends. Meals on wheels service The aim of the Meals on Wheels service is to support senior citizens and other persons who are still living in their own homes but are unable to prepare a meal. The menu offers var- ious choices of meals for 14 consecu- tive days. Each daily meal consists of a starter, main course and a dessert. This service is against a payment of €2.20 per subsidised meal. Telephone rent rebate service The aim of the Telephone Rent Re- bate Service is to provide a bi-monthly discounted rental charge on the appli- cant's residential telephone line. This service is only intended for senior citi- zens having a GO plc telephone service and a valid pink card. There is no dis- count on telephone calls made by the applicant. FOR MORE INFORMATION CALL ON 22788800/03. Continence service The Continence Service aims to alle- viate the psycho-social problems that a person may encounter due to bladder or bowel incontinence. The objective of this service is to provide financial support to these persons by partially or fully subsidising nappies. There are 2 schemes (A and B) which provide nap- pies and incontinence pads: Scheme A: Those who hold the Spe- cial ID Card issued by CRPD and suffer from incontinence as certified by pa- tient's general practitioner are entitled for a supply of fully subsidised nappies (as per general practitioner's prescrip- tion); Scheme B: Senior citizens over 60 years of age and suffer from inconti- nence as certified by the patient's gen- eral practitioner are entitled for a sup- ply of partially subsidised nappies (as per general practitioner's prescription). Phlebotomy service A service whereby professionals take blood samples and other tests in per- sonal homes. This service is solely tar- geted for residents living in the com- munity who are unable to leave their homes for such tests in hospitals and health centres when necessary due to mobility problems. This service is currently a pilot pro- ject and is available in Birkirkara and Mosta. In the coming days this service will also be available in Fgura and Żab- bar. Dementia activity centres Dementia Activity Centres aim to pro- vide a service to those persons suffering from dementia. This service helps to re- duce caregiver stress, whilst therapy is offered so that persons suffering from dementia can remain active. These centres provide a safe, secure and de- mentia-friendly environment and are run by staff which are proficient and trained in dementia care. FOR MORE INFORMATION CALL ON 22912336/30. Dementia intervention team The Dementia Intervention Team (DIT) provides a community-based service to persons with dementia and their caregivers. A holistic assessment of the caregiv- ers' and care recipients' situation is car- ried out in the home, where the person with dementia is residing. Following an assessment, a care plan is tailor-made for each case. The care plan might include information, train- ing, support, advice on safety and cop- ing strategies for both the person with dementia and their caregivers. Ultimately, the main aim of the team of professionals is to enable people with dementia to continue actively ageing in the community. FOR MORE INFORMATION CALL ON 22589301. National dementia helpline A 24-hour service aiming to provide information and comfort for persons suffering with dementia and their rel- atives. Residential care A service that provides home admis- sion in an emotionally safe and secure environment for senior citizens who can no longer cope with living inde- pendently in their own homes.
