It is the largest and most popular athletic event in Malta that attracts over 2,300 participants that travel to Malta to participate in it. The activity will be held at the Na- tional Museum of Natural His- tory in Mdina. During this event at the museum, one will learn what happened over a period of 65 million years. Participants will also see and listen to some local birds; from shearwaters to buntings. The activity will start at 10am. Students need to present their ticket and their Heritage Malta Passport for par- ticipation in this event. Tickets can be purchased from Heritage Malta museums and sites or on- line. Price of the ticket is €5 for Heritage Malta Student Pass- port Holders. Students may be accompanied by their parents at no extra charge. For more infor- mation, visit passport@heritage- malta.org 28 FEBRUARY Witnessing social change through old photos Following Flimkien ghal Amb- jent Ahjar's very successful talk on old photographs some years ago, the NGO is proud to an- nounce a follow-up, when pho- tographic researcher Joseph Piccinino will interpret the revealing tiny details that are usually overlooked, especially in photos of crowded and eventful scenes, details which provide a fascinating insight into social life in Malta, a daily description of conditions at the time. Studying these pictures deeply provides the answers to hun- dreds of questions; some photos need weeks of careful analysis, which Joseph Piccinino will share on Friday 28 February 2020. Music 27 FEBRUARY Jazz showcase In an upcoming concert which concludes the Medinea session in Malta, 11 musicians coming from eight different countries will be presenting new music de- veloped throughout an intercul- tural composition residency this February, under the direction and mentorship of Jazz celebrity Fabrizio Cassol. Belgian jazzman and composer Cassol, hailed as one of the top saxophone play- ers in the jazz world, is mostly known for his work with the trio Aka Moon. Fabrizio Cassol will be in Malta this month to lead one of the four 2020 Medi- nea sessions. A concert will be held at Robert Samut Hall on the 27 February at 7:30pm. The concert will show- case the work which would have been created in throughout the residency. Tickets for the con- cert may be purchased on www. showshappening.com. 30 MARCH Piano Recital by Francis Camilleri On Monday 30th March, Fran- cis Camilleri will present a solo piano recital of works spanning Classical-era drama and intro- spective Romantic elegance. Schubert's lyrical Sonata in A major D. 664 opens this pro- gramme, followed by two dra- matic works in C minor: Mozart's Sonata in C minor and Beethov- en's Pathétique sonata. Festival 4-8 MARCH The Maltese Islands Festival The fourth edition of the high- ly-successful Maltese Islands Festival of drama, dance, mu- sic and singing returns, and the public is welcome to attend. This internationally-accredited performing arts festival is aimed at children and young people between the ages of four and 18, with some categories open to adults. While offering young artists a platform for networking with their peers, the MIF takes the form of a competition, giving participants the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of an audience and panel of in- ternational judges, all experts in their field. UNTIL 25 FEBRUARY Carnival 2020 February brings along the car- nival week, which takes on a tra- ditional pattern; extravagantly coloured floats are perched on lorries ready for the procession, children running around in fan- cy costumes and Malta's main nightlife centre, Paceville, catch- ing the late night carnival goers who pile into the clubs and bars, still wearing their outrageous outfits. The heart of the action takes place in Valletta from 3pm though various towns and vil- lages across the Islands have their own version of festivities.
