maltatoday | SUNDAY • 1 MARCH 2020 7 CULTURE CARNIVAL A variety of costumes and colour added to the fun of the second edi- tion of the Carnival Fun Run organ- ised by Agones SFC in collaboration with the Ghaxaq Local Council. Held on Sunday 23rd February, the event consisted of a 5km fun run, a 2.5km fun run / walk and a 1km run for children. The participants came dressed up as super heroes, cowboys and ballerinas in coloured wigs. Fami- lies dressed up in the same theme, others dressed as cavemen and, of course, the much talked about co- rona virus made its presence felt with a number of participants us- ing the topic as a theme for their costume. If there was one thing in common though, it was the smiles and laughter from the three hun- dred strong crowd, of all ages and abilities, that thronged the nar- row streets of Għaxaq centre for a morning of fun and healthy activity. The event kicked off with a 5km fun run, followed by the shorter distances. Despite it being a fun run, one could still see an element of competition from those taking part, all doing their best to reach the finish line in the shortest time possible. "We are extremely satisfied with the outcome of this event. As a sports club that hosts a variety of races throughout the year, we encourage competition and rac- ing spirit, however today was all about nurturing the colourful and fun spirit of Carnival – whilst also supporting a number of charities through this initiative" explained Warren Muscat, President, Agones SFC. "We are grateful for the sup- port that Għaxaq Local Council and the local community have given us." Prizes were given for the Most Original outfit, Best Family Cos- tume, Eco-Friendly Costume, Couple's Costume and Traditional Themed Costume, and they were presented by Għaxaq Mayor Dar- ren Abela, who confirmed his Lo- cal Council's increased support to- wards the third edition of this event in 2021. Agones SFC announced that part of the proceeds will be donated to The Inspire Foundation – the Foundation for Inclusion and the Alive Charity Foundation, which raises funds for Cancer Research and Awareness.
