For more information please visit www.mcc.com.mt Other TODAY 2020 GiG Malta Marathon The GiG Malta Marathon in- corporates a Half Marathon and a Walkathon. It is the largest and most popular athletic event in Malta that attracts over 2,300 participants that travel to Malta to participate in it. There are a further 2,700 Maltese and for- eign participants that reside in Malta. The marathon will begin at 7:30am, outside the Mdina Main Gate. For more informa- tion visit https://www.maltama- rathon.com/2020_gig _malta_ marathon_1st_march.htm 6 MARCH Shedding light on 1980s' archaeological discovery On Friday, 6 March, at 6:30pm, Heritage Malta is inviting the public to attend a lecture by Dr Maxine Anastasi who will be presenting the initial findings of this small archaeological exca- vation, by combining a reading of the sequence of the archaeo- logical remains identified, and the study of the pottery that was retrieved. The lecture will be held at St Paul's Catacombs au- dio visual hall. Admission is free of charge. Maxine Anastasi is a Lecturer in Roman Archaeology at the Department of Classics and Archaeology at the Universi- ty of Malta. She has participated in a number of the University of Malta's past excavation projects, including those at Tas-Silġ and Għar ix-Xiħ. Presently, she is supervising the University's cur- rent training excavations at the Żejtun Roman villa and Tas-Silġ. TODAY Sahha Pop up Kitchen Tomorrow for lunch the Carob Tree in St Julian's will be hosting a popular kitchen in collabora- tion with SAHHA and the Mi- grant Women Association Mal- ta. The event starts at 12pm and will run all day. SAHHA will be serving Middle Eastern food as well as food from North Africa, in order to share migrant tradi- tions with the Maltese. For more information please visit https:// www.facebook.com/thepodmal- ta/posts/546808862859615 20, 21 & 24 MARCH Georgian Culture Days in Malta On 20 March Old dances and Folia shall be presented at the Republic Hall of the Mediter- ranean Conference Centre. Baroque music on period in- struments shall complement contemporary dance. One danc- er from Malta shall be chosen to take part in this prestigious event. Auditions were held at the MCC Dance Studio between 24, 25 and 26th February 2020. On 21 of March a programme of Classical music shall be pre- sented. This shall include works by Mozart, Haydn and Weber with Levan Tshadadze clarinet solo. On 24 March a programme of 20 century and modern music shall be presented. This shall in- clude works by the greatest mas- ters of the 20th century: Zemlin- sky , Schonberg and Nielsen, but shall also incorporate the music of two important living compos- ers, one Maltese one Georgian, Chris Muscat and Archil Gior- gobiani. The Tbilisi state Cham- ber orchestra shall be conduct- ed by internationally acclaimed Alexei Galea Cavallazzi who tours Russia regularly and has been working incessantly to pro- duce events in Malta with world class orchestras. Galea Cavallaz- zi was awarded the union Feder- ation medal by the Russian Par- liament for his contribution to culture. Galea Cavallazzi is the Music Director at the MCC. All events start at 7:30pm. Tickets can be book by phoning 2559 5750 or by online booking www.mcc.com.mt Festival 4-8 MARCH The Maltese Islands Festival The fourth edition of the high- ly-successful Maltese Islands Festival of drama, dance, mu- sic and singing returns, and the public is welcome to attend. This internationally-accredited per- forming arts festival is aimed at children and young people between the ages of four and 18, with some categories open to adults. While offering young artists a platform for networking with their peers, the MIF takes the form of a competition, giving participants the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of an audience and panel of in- ternational judges, all experts in their field. For more information please visit www.kreattivita.org Music 5 - 25 MARCH Memories of Mars Memories of Mars is an exhi- bition featuring a body of work comprising large abstract paint- ings by the Italian artist Lucio Dubini. The show presents lyri- cal and colourful expressions of the artist's personal narratives related to the concept of at- traction. The exhibition will be showcased at Palazzo de la Salle and will be curated by Roderick Camilleri. The event will take place at Art Galleries, Palazzo de La Salle, Valletta. Schubert's lyrical Sonata in A major D. 664 opens this pro- gramme, followed by two dra- matic works in C minor: Mozart's Sonata in C minor and Beethov- en's Pathétique sonata.
