Whether in a grand country house where an innocent game leads to chilling revelations, a primary school teacher's one-bedroom flat, or a historic village in the grip of a witch hunt, the buildings are the sites of tales with unexpected twists that, in many cases, take a turn for the horrific. All of the stories come from the minds of writers Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith, who also star in some episodes. Their hit comic book series, 'Bluntman and Chronic', is loosely patterned after a pair of acquaintances, Jay (Jason Mew- es) and Silent Bob (played by Smith), two characters already familiar as supporting players in several Smith films. Into Holden's life comes Alyssa Jones (Joey Lauren Adams), a lesbian and fellow comic book creator who quickly becomes a close friend, although Holden is powerfully attracted to her. When he uncovers evidence linking his fellow officers to a murder, they frame him for a homicide he didn't commit.
