28.05.2020 TRENDSETTING The Shoreline's Commercial Podium awarded Silver LEED pre-certification LOCATED directly on the seafront overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, The Shoreline is a landmark private project by Shoreline Contracting Limit- ed within Smart City Malta, offering a mix of 370 luxury one, two, three-bed- room apartments, duplexes and pent- houses that enjoy spectacular views, as well as a fully-fledged shopping mall. Recently, after fulfilling all the neces- sary requirements. The Commercial Podium's design and construction project has been awarded a high-level Silver LEED Pre-Certification. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an inter- nationally recognized green build- ing certification system, providing third-party verification that a building was designed and built using strate- gies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitiv- ity to their impacts. Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USG- BC), LEED provides building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green build- ing design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions. The commercial component within The Shoreline consists of two levels of outlets and a further three underlying parking levels, covering the full foot- print of the project underlying the pri- vate plaza and the residential blocks totaling about 25,500 square meters, with an eclectic mix of retail, catering leisure and entertainment. LEED provides a point system to score green building design and con- struction. The system is categorized in five basic areas: sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmos- phere, materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality. Build- ings are awarded points based on the extent various sustainable strat- egies are achieved. LEED (US) and BREEAM (UK) are the most popular rating systems of all sustainable as- sessment methods worldwide. The pre-certification has been re- leased by Green Business Certifica- tion Inc., which administers the LEED certification programme, performing third-party technical reviews and ver- ification of registered projects to de- termine whether they have met the standards set forth by the LEED rating system. Dedicated technical experts ensure building certification meets the highest levels of quality and integrity. Ben Muscat, Chairman at Shoreline Contracting Limited, said: "Although pre-certification is an optional review pathway, the Silver Pre-Certification we obtained for our Commercial Po- dium, with the help of Greenwich's consultants, demonstrates our com- mitment to LEED certification, as we market the unique and valuable green features of our project to attract ten- ants and financiers. "The Shoreline is certainly not a conventional development. It is de- signed to be a sustainable, commu- nity-focused, environment-friendly and a visual masterpiece of modern Maltese architecture with landscaped open spaces and a variety of commu- nity amenities. The combination of a LEED certified development, together with quality attributes such as sound and noise-proofing and other unique features, are resonating across the in- dustry and with potential home own- ers and investors as such initiatives express our determination towards reaching green sustainability to offer a unique environment of the future." Set to be fully completed by 2023, this luxurious project will be creating a unique and sophisticated destina- tion in the area of SmartCity Malta. Both EU and non-EU nationals can purchase property at The Shoreline with the same acquisition rights as Maltese citizens, and without the need to obtain an Acquisition of Im- movable Property (AIP) permit. There are no limits on the amount of prop- erties a buyer can purchase and, once acquired, the owners may also lease the properties out. The Shoreline's Commercial Podium fulfilled all the necessary requirements to be awarded with a high-level Silver LEED Pre-Certification THE Eden Leisure Group has been nominat- ed for the 'European Business Award for the Environment 2020-2021'. The nomination comes as a result of the company's contin- uous efforts in environmental awareness campaigns and its sustainable practices and initiatives. ELG set up their 'Green Committee' in July 2018 with the purpose of pushing the company to become more environmentally friendly and adopt greener practices. Ever since, the company has been at the forefront of corporate eco-friendliness. The introduction of a more efficient data storage system has drastically the reduced the company's paper usage. Meanwhile the investment of Smart A/C's ensures less unnecessary power consumption. The company also recently invested in a 100% eco-friendly van. ELG's, national promo- tional campaigns, beach clean ups, free dis- tribution of reusable bags and tree planting initiatives are all amongst the contributing factors that led towards the nomination. ELG was also recently awarded the 'Man- agement Award for Sustainable Develop- ment 2019' and the 'Malta Waste Reduction Award'. Kate De Cesare, Director of Operations at Eden Leisure Group and chairperson for the Green Committee stated, "Adopting sus- tainable practices at the work place is a duty for all business. It needn't be complicated or expensive, on the contrary, it can offer enjoyable team building opportunities and bring people together to work for a common goal outside of their regular duties. It's win- win!" Eden Leisure Group nominated for European Environmental Award
