3 LETTERS & EDITORIAL maltatoday | SUNDAY • 12 JULY 2020 Mikiel Galea Letters & Clarifications God's covenant I was surprised that there was no re- action to Prof. Isabel Stabile's letter "Abortion rights" in your paper. I would like to vent my disagreement to her fallacy. The gist of the Professor's futile exer- cise consisted in explaining the differ- ence between a foetus baby just before and after birth an embryo at six weeks and a foetus at six months. Had there been no cruel intervention (abortion) the end result would have been the welcome near miraculous advent of a human being in this world. But let's have the opinion of two great religious leaders, Pope Francis and the Patriarch of Russia Kirill when they met on 15 February, 2016. "We call on all, to respect the inalienable right to life. Millions are denied the very right to be born into the world. 'The blood of the unborn cries out to God' (Gen.4:10). But the command of God to mankind, that life should be preserved with great care from the moment of conception was proclaimed at the beginning of time." "Before I formed thee in the bowels of thy mother,I knew thee and before thou comets forth out of the womb, I sanctified thee" (Gen.1:5). Nor was my frame unknown to you when I was made in secret, when I was fashioned in the depths of the earth." (Ps.139:15) Who would dare go against God's covenant? John Azzopardi Zabbar Vitals: Nexia BT advice I refer to the article dated 3 July 2020 relating to the court session on the Vitals Global Healthcare contract. The article might give the impres- sion that Nexia BT was advising Gov- ernment on this concession or on the technical competence of Vitals. While I was a member of the Evaluation and Adjudication committee, neither Nexia BT nor any of its members was in any way involved in any other stage of the competitive process or during the con- cession. Rather than saying "they went wrong" in relation to reaching of tar- gets, I stated that while the bid was a sound one, the committee was not re- sponsible for or involved in negotiating the agreement with the preferred bid- der, drafting of the concession agree- ment, or monitoring of the concession. Hence it could not ascertain what had changed or who was responsible for such changes. I would like to emphasize that I stat- ed that the committee adhered to the remit imposed on it by the Request for Proposals (rfp) issued by Projects Malta. In line with the rfp, the commit- tee evaluated the bids submitted, with that of Vitals being the only compliant bid, and then scored the compliant bid against pre-determined parameters. As required by the rfp, the committee declared Vitals the preferred bidder on the merits of the bid. Manuel Castagna Nexia BT Why isn't Mizzi expelled? MAY I suggest that Robert Abela has actually not truly sacked Konrad Mizzi as he claims. That is, Konrad Mizzi should be expelled from the Labour Party as a member to ensure that Abela has indeed sacked his former MP from the party. That would be a strong mes- sage to all those members of the polit- ical class who like Mizzi, seem to think there is nothing wrong with what they have done in their short-lived careers as government ministers.
