23.07.2020 4 NEWS PN rebel MPs walk out on Adrian Delia, shun discussion on Theuma incident KARL AZZOPARDI NATIONALIST rebel MPs walked out of a parliamentary group meeting called by Adrian Delia to discuss the Melvin euma incident. erese Comodini Cachia said the MPs were only interested in discussing the leader's unwillingness to respect two no confidence votes. Comodini Cachia was scathing in comments she gave the media on her way in for the meeting of the parlia- mentary group at PN headquarters on Wednesday. She and other rebel MPs walked out of the meeting shortly afterwards when Delia, ostensibly refused to discuss an- ything but the dramatic events that un- folded in the last hours. e meeting was called by Delia late on Tuesday night after the alleged su- icide attempt by Melvin euma, the middleman in the Daphne Caruana Galizia murder. But Delia's attempt to get the parlia- mentary group together on the matter, which he described as being of national importance, was torpedoed by dissent- ing MPs. "In light of the circumstances which unfolded during the night, it is certain that the country needs a strong, seri- ous and credible opposition," Comodini Cachia said, adding that the only thing her colleagues were willing to discuss during the meeting was Delia's unwill- ingness to respect the two confidence votes he lost. A fortnight ago, Delia lost a confi- dence vote in his parliamentary group, which was followed by another defeat in the executive committee. Comodini Cachia said that if the par- ty was not a credible and strong oppo- sition, it would not be in a position to fight "the web of corruption which has engulfed the country under a Labour government". Comodini Cachia also agreed that yes- terday's incident involving euma was a bigger incentive for the parliamentary group to discuss the party's leadership. Her words contrasted with those of the PN leader, who on his way in said the meeting would discuss yesterday's incident and government's mistake in not protecting a key witness. He also called out government and the PM for not issuing any statements on the case. "at worries me. I expect the coun- try's leaders to lay out a direction," Delia said. Therese Comodini Cachia lead a walkout of rebel MPs from the PN parliamentary group meeting convened by Adrian Delia THE Ministry for the Family, Chil- dren's Rights and Social Solidarity on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding on financial capability education with Bank of Valletta and MAPFRE MSV Life. During the five-year term of this Agreement, Bank of Valletta and MAPFRE Life will work with the ministry's ĠEMMA Know, Plan, Act financial capability platform to: (a) develop a retirement planner tool as a responsive website application; (b) work with economic operators in- volved in retirement planning so that this tool becomes the de facto stand- ard and (c) carry out of joint financial capability awareness and education initiatives. Minister Michael Falzon thanked both the Bank of Valletta and MAP- FRE MSV Life for the financing of the responsive website retirement tool which will be designed on knowledge provided by ĠEMMA of how the so- cial security contributory pension systems works. He said that consistent and authora- tive information on pension projec- tions would result in better informed retirement-related decisions by Mal- tese citizens as well as increased con- fidence in the providers of pension products. Mark Musu, Chairperson of the Pen- sions Strategy Group said that the establishment of such Memoranda of Agreement between ĠEMMA and prominent institutions such as the Bank of Valletta and MAPFRE MSV Life was a strategic goal of the Retire- ment and Financial Capability strate- gy that the Ministry launched in 2017. "The establishment of such strate- gic partnerships ensured that Malta adopts a collaborative and coordinat- ed approach in instilling a financial capability culture," he said.
