maltatoday | SUNDAY • 26 JULY 2020 6 CULTURE Harbour cruise to commemorate World War II damage and victims ON Wednesday, August 12, Heritage Malta will be organ- ising a curator-guided WWII Harbour Cruise to mark the 80th anniversary of the inclu- sion of Malta in the Second World War and the 75th anni- versary of the end of this war. The Grand Harbour was the main target of the Axis' aerial bombings, and between 1940 and 1942, it witnessed some of the most ferocious attacks in history, including the fa- mous bombardments on the HMS Illustrious. This conflict brought ever-lasting changes to the configuration of the Grand Harbour, resulting not only in the destruction of much of the towns and villag- es around it, but also in con- siderable loss of life. Price for the cruise is set at €17 for adults, €10 for Herit- age Malta members, €15 for seniors and students, and €10 for children. Heritage Mal- ta members will be asked to present their HM member- ship card on the day. The Harbour Cruise will depart from the Sliema Fer- ries (Luzzu Cruises point) at 19:00 sharp and return back by 20:30. Temperature read- ing will take place and Herit- age Malta reserves the right to deny access to anyone with a temperature higher than 37.2 degrees Celsius, or if feeling unwell. The tour may be cancelled in case of bad weather.
