9 maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 19 AUGUST 2020 NEWS RYDE is the latest ride hailing service to hit Malta's shores and is revolutionising the way people view sustainable mobility in Malta. The iconic black London Cab people may have spotted around is in fact Ryde's fully electric hero car, which offers a glimpse of what this mobility company has to offer. Ryde is the exclusive mobility provider to manage this fleet of fully electric cabs that offer advantages such as ramp access for wheelchairs, prams and pushchairs (without the need for passengers to leave the seat), 3 + 3 seating facing each other, full sky roof and ample luggage capacity. The total Ryde fleet includes many other normal passenger vehicles and a fleet of mini vans. The Ryde app works on global best- in-class mobility tech allowing users to easily book their preferred mode. Seam- less on-demand and pre-booking servic- es with super terms for both riders and drivers has given this app an unexpected but welcome head start. Ryde is 'driver-obsessed' with the belief that "if the drivers are happy, then the Ryders are happy, our tech capability is exceptional, but also worthless without the amazing humans involved. It's that simple, we believe it's the human side of things that puts the magic into our busi- ness" said a spokesperson for Ryde. Ryde was built around the philoso- phy that humans and the environment in which we operate should come first, where success is measured by well-being and not just in figures or statistics. Ryde will in fact be rolling out a major initi- ative that further supports its commit- ment to Malta's environmental well-be- ing in the coming weeks. The Ryde Malta app is available for download on the App store and on Google Play. The new norms for health and safe- ty are strictly adhered to, with Perspex sheets separating drivers from passen- gers and masks worn at all times. A new Ryde in town THE Valletta Pageant of the Seas, one the Valletta Cultural Agency's large-scale events, was broadcast live on Sunday 16th August for television audiences in light of restrictions on mass gatherings and events. Under the artistic direction of Chris Baldwin and presented by Keith Dem- icoli and Sarah-Lee Zammit with the support of sports commentator Sandro Micallef, the third edition of the Val- letta Pageant of the Seas saw the icon- ic Tellieqa Telliqun race happen once again in the Grand Harbour. The race constituted of community members who came together to build nine sea vessels using recycled mate- rial. In first place was Ryan Farrugia and Sephora Sammut, racing with the name of "Quickie". The winning team received a cash prize of €1,500. 'The Return of the Runaway Ferris Wheel' by David Cristina, Stephen Dal- li and Terence Delia, was awarded the People's Choice Award trophy after be- ing chosen by the public on the VCA's Facebook page. The event also included a regatta, now synonymous with the nautical event, also included the participation of nine regatta clubs, but this time with a twist as the regatta was raced by solely female rowers; a first in the Valletta Pageant of the Seas history. The clubs which participated included rowers from the Marsa Regatta Club, the Birgu Regatta Club, the Isla Regatta Club, the Kalkara Regatta Club, the Bormla Regatta Club and the Birzebugia Regatta Club. The winning team was Birgu, who received a cash prize of €2,000 and included the participation of Glynnis Mizzi, Rachelle Gialanze and Cayenne Mizzi. The event culminated in a beautiful spectacle on the water, titled "Il-Map- pa". The event included the participa- tion of 34 sailing boats and 20 dgħajjes tal-pass. The event saw the sails of the sailing boats change into mirrors, beau- tifully illuminated with various projec- tions tied to Valletta. The artistic concept focused on the lived experience of Valletta residents and artisans working in the city, par- ticularly work tied to hands, such as Guilders, Engineers, Silversmiths and Bell Ringers. The event included the music direction of Andrew Alamango, visual concepts and direction by Char- lie Cauchi, and light design and visual coordination by Petko Tanchev. The event also included music production by Alamango and Andrej Vujicic; mix- ing and mastering by Vujicic and Pab- lo Prada; with motion graphic designer Andres Algeciras. The event was a success thanks to var- ious stakeholders such as Valletta res- idents, Mater Dei Hospital, Heritage Malta, Armed Forces of Malta, Civil Protection Department, Malta Police Force, Transport Malta, Health Depart- ment, Cleansing Directorate and many others.
