maltatoday | SUNDAY • 27 SEPTEMBER 2020 10 TODAY Desert One [Film Documentary] 10pm on History (Channel 412) From the legendary documenta- ry filmmaker, and two-time Oscar winner, Barbara Kopple, comes "Desert One," the story of Oper- ation Eagle Claw, a failed rescue mission during the Iran hostage crisis in 1980. Kopple weaves together archival news footage and interviews with everyone from hostages to hostage tak- ers, from special forces service- men to President Jimmy Carter. If there's someone who was involved in this situation, Kopple tracks them down to unpack just what happened, even an Iranian passenger on a bus that the mission accidentally intercepted. It's an autopsy of sorts, offering context for the mission, the situation in Iran and the U.S., and the political ramifications on President Carter's re-election (which he ultimately lost). It's an extraordinarily detailed dissec- tion of the mission itself, the planning, the men involved and what exactly went wrong. MONDAY Devs – Season 1 [Drama Series] 8:50pm on FOX HD (Channel 335) 'Devs' follows the story of a young software engineer, Lily Chan (Sonoya Mizuno), who investigates the secretive development division of her employer, a cutting-edge tech company based in Silicon Valley, which she believes is behind the murder of her boyfriend Sergei (Karl Glusman). TUESDAY Criminal Minds S15 Ep.5: "Ghost" [Drama Series] 11pm on Melita More (Channel 315) When several people are shot in a rash of shootings in Des Plaines, Illinois, the Behavioural Analysis Unit (BAU) realizes the crimes match those of a sniper they hunted down fifteen years ago, but their assessment of the killings changes drastically when two of their own are kidnapped. WEDNESDAY Global Meltdown (2017) [Film] 8:10pm on Sony Movies Action (Channel 317) The Earth is breaking apart, people are killing each other, and fire is raining from the sky – Just another day in Pleasant, Washington for Mayor John Mitchell and his wife Karen. After the Earth's crust begins to fall apart, one community must band together and reach higher ground. Between avalanches, volcanoes, and mutiny, this caravan has their work cut out for them. It's a post-apocalyptic road trip they'll never forget. THURSDAY Blue Thunder [Film] 10pm on Sony Movies Action (Channel 317) Frank Murphy is a courageous and honourable Los Angeles police officer who is chosen to test run Blue Thunder, a high-tech experimental attack helicopter. While flying Blue Thunder, Murphy and his partner discover that the government intends to use the helicopter for corrupt crowd control and surveillance. Blue Thunder is a 1983 American action thriller film from Columbia Pictures, produced by Gordon Carroll, Phil Feldman, and Andrew Fogelson and directed by John Badham. The film features a high-tech helicopter of the same name. FRIDAY The Messengers [Film] 8pm on AMC HD (Channel 336) he Messenger is a 2009 war drama film starring Ben Foster, Woody Harrelson, Samantha Morton, Steve Buscemi, and Jena Malone. It is the directorial debut of Oren Moverman, who also wrote the screenplay with Alessandro Camon. Will Mont- gomery, an army soldier, gets injured while fighting a war and joins the Casualty Notification Team. Subsequently, he finds himself in a predicament when he gets attracted to a widow. SATURDAY The Night Manager [Drama Series] 8:55pm on AMC HD (Channel 336) The Night Manager is a Brit- ish television serial directed by Susanne Bier and starring Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie, Olivia Colman, David Harewood, Tom Hollander, and Elizabeth Debicki. It is based on the 1993 novel of the same name by John le Carré and adapted to the pres- ent day by David Farr. Pine, an ex-British soldier, is hired by an intelligence officer as a covert operative. He is tasked with infil- trating the inner circle of Roper, a secret arms dealer and also his lover's killer. The six-part series began broadcasting on BBC. Streaming picks Your guide to the best shows on streaming platforms Van Helsing [Series 4] Netflix In this reimagining of the classic Dracula stor y, the world is dominated by vampires, requiring humans to work together to sur vive. The series centers on Vanessa Helsing, daughter of famed vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing, who wakes up af ter a five-year coma to discover a vampire-controlled world. She soon learns that she possesses a unique blood composition that makes her immune to vampires and able to turn the creatures into humans. That power puts humanit y's last hope to return the world to how it once was before the vampires took over in Vanessa's hands. Utopia [Series 1] Amazon Prime A group of young adults, who meet online, get a hold of a cult underground graphic novel, which not only pins them as a target of a shadowy deep state organization, but also burdens them with the dangerous task of saving the world. Utopia is an upcoming American drama web television series adapted by Gillian Flynn from the 2013 British original.
