"I do not agree with you when you said Malta was not full-up because it hindered my work at the European Council when I made the point that Malta was full-up," Abela said. Since becoming PN leader, Grech has called for a national conference on migration, push- ing aside the argument he had made during the PN leadership campaign that he did not believe Malta was full-up. Grech rebutted that the Prime Minister had not understood the scope of his proposal for a na- tional conference. PN deputy leader David Agius and PL deputy leader Daniel Mi- callef were also present for the meeting. The meeting between the two took place in parliament shortly after Grech took his seat as an MP. Grech sworn in as MP Grech was voted in as the ninth PN leader with 69.3% of party members' votes. Prime Minister Robert Abela passed a motion for Grech's elec- tion with the motion seconded by predecessor Adrian Delia. Grech was elected to parlia- ment through a casual election, with MP Ivan Bartolo giving up his parliamentary seat. Bartolo was only elected to parliament seven months ago after taking Marthese Portelli's seat on the Ninth District. Grech will be sworn in as oppo- sition leader today. In a short speech, Grech thanked family members and col- leagues within the party for their support. In comments to journalists after the meeting with Abela, Grech said the Prime Minister went on a monologue without under- standing the PN's call for a con- ference that would also discuss population apart from irregular migration. "The government has no plan to address its own policy to import foreign labour," Grech said, add- ing this had created undue pres- sure on the country. He also said Abela had forgot- ten that there was a damning re- port by the Auditor General on the Electrogas contract, reiter- ating his call for a public inquiry into the tender award.
