APS Global Equity Fund launched GET Governanz is today organ- ising its first anti-corruption we- binar, in association with Malta Chamber, themed '10 Principles for Fighting Corruption' and hosted in collaboration with the American Anti-Corruption Institute (AACI). "Corruption is a complex so- cio-economic issue which cannot be fought through a one-size- fits-all approach. Strenghthening legislation and enforcement are important but these need to be complemented with a change in public attitude through systematic and sustained education especially amongst the younger generation," Get Governanz CEO Terrence Norris said. e high-level webinar will out- line 10 principles for fighting cor- ruption including effective and good governance, effective internal control, independent and effective judiciary and the pervasiveness of the rule of law. "Political and social events in Malta have created a climate of undue uncertainty within the lo- cal business community causing a negative impact on business con- fidence and on the country's rep- utation, especially in particularly sensitive sectors," says Terrence Norris. "is webinar will most impor- tantly show that although corrup- tion is a complex socio-economic concept that requires sophisticated tools to eradicate it, fighting it is not impossible but not through a one-size-fits-all approach. Chang- es to laws, improvements in en- forcement structures and proce- dures are good to start with but these have to be complemented with a change in public attitude through systematic and sustained education of what constitutes cor- ruption; with a particular focus on educating Malta young people on the subject," he added. e keynote speaker for the webi- nar will be Mike Masoud, director at the AACI. Masoud has extensive experience helping corporations investigating allegations of cor- ruption. In over 25 years of expe- rience, he has helped attorneys in complex court cases involving seri- ous allegations of corporate fraud, improper financial reporting and economic crimes. He will be joined by Malta Cham- ber President Perit David Xuereb, together with Terry Norris, An- drew Naudi and Charles Cassar from Get Governanz, on a short panel. e event will close with a Q&A session. e event will take place via Zoom at 3.30pm. ose interested are invited to register by visiting the events section on www.malta- chamber.org.mt Malta Chamber teams up with Get Governanz for first anti- corruption webinar
