4 NEWS 8.10.2020 THE lifestyle changes and challenges that COVID 19 offered society in the past months were at the centre of an online event titled 'e Digital Future: Teleworking and Online Services'. e webinar, which was held on Friday morning, brought together e Malta Chamber President Perit David Xuereb, MEP Miriam Dalli, Ing. Abigail Cutajar, and Konrad Pule, as main speakers on the subject. ey were joined by several experts from various fields throughout the event. Addressing attendees, MEP Miriam Dalli said teleworking works. "e COVID19 pandemic has shocked our systems but we believe that it can be turned into an opportunity which works in everyone's favour. Teleworking is a working method by which workers are granted greater flexibility, allowing companies to reduce operational costs. We cannot all telework, but we have all realised what a better life we live with less cars on our roads and less pollu- tion," she said. "However, we need KPIs to measure the performance of employees and to have the right safeguards in place not to burn out workers. Above all, tele- working allows parents to find the right balance between work and family life - a balance which is not easy to find." Xuereb said that the extended use of teleworking tools and online services the world had to resort to during COV- ID were the perfect example of solu- tions people must strive to build on. "e lessons we have learnt during 2020 must become the spring board from which we launch a new normali- ty that is based on equity, sustainability and resilience" he said. "I am pleased to note that this event has brought togeth- er a strong list of contributors who have a great deal to share on their areas of ex- pertise. We want to bring more collabo- rators on board to turn the talk into the walk, and create a national drive where we turn this into an opportunity for so- ciety. Let us ensure teleworking stays with us in a safe tangible manner for everyone in a bid to improve our quality of life." e Chairperson of the Committee for Mobility within e Malta Cham- ber, Konrad Pule', said teleworking has a wider dimension than just working from home or outside the office. "It is an opportunity for businesses, policy makers and people in general to do their part to reduce the amount of vehicles on our road to create more space for clean- er and sustainable modes of transport to become more attractive," he said. Abigail Cutajar said teleworking and online services have proved to be effec- tive measures in the quest of creating a sustainable society. "Shifting to digitalisation requires a shift in corporate culture and a change in policy. Such measures should help us kick-start high-impact actions and ambitious goals to confront this climate crisis," she said. "My vision is for Malta to become a sustainable island. is is only possible if every citizen sees value in this shift and joins forces at making Malta the Sustainable Island it deserves to be." Minister Carmelo Abela remarked that telework and remote working are important steps forward towards better family friendly conditions of employ- ment. He said that with the evolution of information technology, certain work, can now be carried out away from the office on a regular basis. "It's good to keep the momentum of this discus- sion, which is also being discussed at MCESD, so we will be in a position to regulate in the interest of employees and employers, since this has to be a win, win situation," he said. is webinar, which was attended by over 120 guests throughout, was the first in a series of events and initiatives being organised by influential stake- holders in the industry. During the online event, the lifestyle changes brought by the COVID-19 partial lockdown were discussed, along with new opportunities that allowed employees to telework from home in- stead of commuting to the office. e aim of the webinar was to better understand the opportunities for the introduction of further policies that can be introduced to aid the advancement of businesses and to support the long- term benefits that such changes can bring. Influential stakeholders come together to mould way forward for a more sustainable society 'Let's build on the lessons learnt' GAMING Innovation Group Inc. (GiG) has signed a long-term agreement with Tipwin Ltd. for the provision of GiG's platform, data platform and GiG Logic. Tipwin will use GiG to power its new casino offering under its own licences from the Maltese and Swedish Gaming Authorities. e agreement is based on a revenue share model with a minimum contract term of three years. Tipwin Ltd., founded in 2011, offers multi-channel sports betting both offline and online under one brand. It currently operates more than 1,500 retail betting shops throughout Europe, which along with their sponsorship of two of Germany's first league football teams, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt, makes them one of the most recognisable operators in the German re- tail betting market. Tipwin will be integrating GiG's casino platform technology into their new next generation sportsbook platform, which has been developed entirely from scratch, to capitalise on further digital transfor- mation from retail to online gambling, in anticipation of the nationwide German regulation for online casino and sports betting in 2021. e casino offering is expected to go-live during Q4 2020, and this partnership is expected to make a positive contribution to GiG's revenues from 2021 onwards. Ivica Batinic, Chief Executive Officer of Tipwin said integrating GiG's leading ca- sino technology into Tipwin's next gener- ation proprietary sports betting platform will allow Tipwin to round up it's overall iGaming product portfolio. "During the last nine years Tipwin suc- cessfully built up it's land-based business throughout Europe, is now one of the fastest growing sportsbook operators in Europe and developed a strong technol- ogy portfolio including our proprietary hardware for sports betting shops," he said. "Partnering with GiG in the area of casi- no technologies will complete our online products and help offering an unmatched 360 degree online and retail product port- folio to our customers and partners." Richard Brown, Chief Executive Officer of GiG said the company was delighted to have partnered with Tipwin for the pro- vision of its iGaming platform and casino offering. "Tipwin has been a successful retail sportsbook operator for over 9 years and we look forward to supporting them in their expansion into the online casino space," he said. "We see strong potential in linking up with a brand with a large existing retail customer base and anticipate further growth in the number of casino custom- ers in the German market post regulation in 2021, therefore partnering with an ex- isting retail offering will enable further capture of the expected transition of cus- tomers from land based to online gaming".
