MaltaToday has established that in a 22 November 2019 in- terrogation of Edgar Brincat 'il-Ġojja', also known as Edwin, intelligence phone taps were played to him that show he had coached Theuma on what to say while recording his conversa- tions with Fenech. Theuma's recordings with Fenech and other associates are part of the evidence he offered up to police, to broker a presidential pardon in return for information on the assassination plot. After his arrest in November 2019, investigators summoned Brincat, known to be a close friend of Theuma, asking him to explain his telephone conversa- tions with Theuma. In the phone taps played out during that interrogation – on the eve of Theuma's pardon be- ing recommended by then police commissioner Lawrence Cutajar – Brincat is heard advising Theu- ma on what to do. The phone- calls were made weeks or months before the November arrest. Paternal relation: Edwin Brincat 'il-Gojja' and Melvin Theuma have a long association "No medical expert would have recommended allowing mass events to take place: because we knew, from beforehand, that this was going to create chaos" PAGE 4
