Economic Challenges • Only 4% of approved projects are being considered by Malta Enterprise due to space limitation • Risk of curtailing economic growth and future employement of generations to come • Investors want readily available space Economic Implications • Loss of 136m per year in gross value added • Equivalent to 3000 FTE jobs • This would be equivalent to 267Million when taking indirect and induced effects • Approx 6500 FTE jobs • Our country can't afford to loose these investment and job opportunities INDIS Malta (formerly known as the Malta Industrial Parks) will be responsible for a €470+ million investment to improve industrial infrastructure over the next eight years, creating a rentable space of circa 600,000 sq.m Investment: €101m Size: 30,000 sqm, Tripling the space at the LSP Type: Laboratories and office space Sector: Life sciences, technology-related and other knowledge-intensive industries Objective: With the first three blocks at full capacity, the facility will be extended with five more blocks to house businesses in research, development and innovation Expansion will link access to Mater Dei Hospital, thereby making it more attractive for companies wishing to collaborate/make use of the hospital for research. Potential jobs sectors at the MLSP include R&D companies that seek collaboration with academia, healthcare, medical devices, biotech, and technology innovation etc. Investment: €51m Size: 85,000 sqm Type: Small to medium-sized industrial properties Sector: Manufacturing and related services; sports Objective: Rehabilitation of a former rubbish dump in Luqa and the creation of an industrial area, sports complex and landscaping. Through this project, new multi-purpose recreational and entertainment facilities are being created for the Luqa and other nearby communities, thereby improving quality of life for families alike. The regeneration of the dump will also allow the development of new sports facilities, including a full- sized football pitch. Objective: The current KBIC is composed of tired buildings. The project will see the Rebuilding of KBIC into a modern industrial start-up facilities for Maltese and foreign companies looking for plug and play solutions to start industrial projects with a view to grow out of the space offered in this touch down facility. This will cater for the anticiapted demand for startup infrastructure as is the curent trend in similar hubs across Europe.
