maltatoday | SUNDAY • 13 DECEMBER 2020 12 ELDERLY CARE VILLA Anna Teresa in St Ju- lian's is being developed as a 116-bedded long term care resi- dence for older persons and will be providing a suite of services including independent and as- sisted residential care, respite care and a dementia activity day centre. It will also host an art psycho- therapy hub and will provide the services of a memory clin- ic and medical rehabilitation centre. In terms of outreach, Villa Anna Teresa will operate a home-care service. Together with a number of practice in- novations, it is the objective of Villa Anna Teresa to promote excellence in the care for older persons in Malta. The project is being designed in full cognisance of concepts of design for dementia and grounded in the conviction that user groups are able to influence service developments, and the benefits of collaboration will re- sult in continual improvement across the spectrum of care. Family members are particu- larly expected to make an im- portant contribution towards the care of their loved ones and will be encouraged to partici- pate in multi-disciplinary dis- cussions. A number of specialist roles aimed at supporting evi- dence-based practice will be introduced and the importance of developing staff will be en- couraged through participation in EU and other local research programmes, and through a rolling programme of internal and external training. Villa Anna Teresa is adopting the 360 Standard Framework™ to demonstrate a publicly stated commitment towards the high- est standards of care. The 360 SF™ is a quality im- provement and practice de- velopment framework for es- tablishing and maintaining person-centred cultures in care environments as places where people who need them want to be, staff find the work fulfilling, and relatives and friends enjoy visiting. It comprises three sets of interdependent outcome standards, which together constitute a level of relation- ship-based person-centred care and support as defined by the cared-for person, relatives and carers. Villa Anna Teresa will apply the principles of the 360 SF™ across all levels of the organi- sation to identify performance outcomes and ongoing develop- ment priorities over time. As such it is both a triad of outcome standards and a care assessment framework. Through successfully connect- ing key relationships and creat- ing a positive business culture, Villa Anna Teresa will place the cared-for person's experience of care at the centre of how suc- cess is measured. 360 SF™ un- derpins all service and practice standards. The 360 SF™ is ethically grounded in the belief that old- er persons living in care homes have the same rights as every- one else. They are entitled to personal privacy and dignity, to be treated with respect and kindness, to feel included and understood, to have person- al privacy and security, and to have opportunities to engage in reciprocal and meaningful rela- tionships as a valued member of the community in which they live. Positive relationships across and between residents, relatives and staff are essential charac- teristics of good care. The res- ident's human rights and the requirements of empathetic and sensitive communication in relationships are embodied in the 360 SF™ as measurable outcomes. Villa Anna Teresa will develop a community that engenders a sense of belonging, continuity, purpose significance, security, and achievement in the lived experience of residents, their visiting relatives and the staff. Resident centred care is de- pendent on the development and maintenance of positive relationships across and be- tween the resident, their close relatives/friends and staff, often referred to as the relationship triangle. Residents will judge their ex- perience of life at Villa Anna Teresa more positively if staff is person-centred in attitude and behaviour toward them. Relatives and other close carers visiting the resident will judge their own experiences more positively if staff recognises the roles of relatives and close car- ers and respond with empathy and understanding. Staff will judge their experi- ence of working with residents as more satisfying and worth- while, and be more person-cen- tred in their work, if they feel valued by their employer and equipped to fulfil their caring roles in resident-focused ways. A pre-booking service is now available and the team will be happy to discuss any require- ments that you might have. More information is available at www.villaannateresa.com, through email info@villaan- nateresa.com or by telephone +356 2712 3456/7.
