maltatoday | SUNDAY • 27 DECEMBER 2020 13 COMMERCIAL Eden Leisure staff give a little extra this festive season 2020 has been a tough year for many, but it has been a harder one for some. With the pandem- ic affecting jobs and business- es, this in turn affected many households. Staff from Eden Leisure Group; InterContinen- tal Malta, Holiday Inn Express Malta, Bay Radio, Eden Cine- mas, Cynergi and Eden Super- bowl, have teamed up to collect non-perishable food items to donate to the Foodbank Lifeline Foundation Malta. This foun- dation provides food supplies to people and families for a period of time, until they find a way to improve their circumstances. Simon De Cesare; Chief Exec- utive Officer for Eden Leisure Group, commented; "We have always believed that keeping the less fortunate in mind in what we do is important. In fact we dedicate efforts to such work all year round, through various initiatives. This dona- tion, was made possible thanks to all our generous employees who showed great initiative in making this a sizable donation. Huge credit goes to the Food- bank Lifeline Foundation Mal- ta, who do an excellent job of putting food on the tables of those who are struggling. We are just thrilled that we could contribute to such a great cause!" Neal Debono; Cluster Hotel Manager at InterContinental and Holiday Inn Express Malta, states: "It is heart-warming to see such a large group of people come together in this manner during difficult times. It is tru- ly a testament to our values as an international company and a reflection of our True Hos- pitality mantra, where giving care compassionately becomes a daily occurrence." The team encourages all to contribute and help in any way possible, especially during this Festive Season. Every last Friday of the month, the company holds a 'Dress Down Day' which sees staff members enjoying a day at the office in more casual attire, and also contributing a small donation to a charity fund. The company adds to the donation that will be presented to chari- table organisations of the staff 's choosing. Closing off the year on a pos- itive note, executive director, Mark Laferla Jr stated, "It's been a hard year for everyone, and we hope that this donation to Hospice Malta will help this hard-working foundation con- tinue with the good work that's being done". Throughout the years, the monthly initiative also formed part of the com- pany's team-building strategy, whereby staff could enjoy a company-paid lunch and min- gle with each other in a relaxed environment. "Because of COVID, we have had to adapt our dress down day initiative to incorporate social distanc- ing, however, we still treat our staff to lunch every month and make sure that the underlying objective of the initiative, the charitable donations such as that which we are making to Hospice Malta, lies at the heart of the occasion each month." Hospice Malta provides pa- tient-centred palliative care free-of-charge to more than 1300 patients every year. The NGO's primary role is to pro- vide services to patients suffer- ing from cancer, motor-neuron disease, end-of-life, cardiac, renal and liver diseases. Servic- es include home care and fol- low up visits for patients, day therapy of various natures, hy- drotherapy, 24/7 respite care, patient transport, hospital sup- port, loaning of equipment, af- ter-hours on-call support, psy- chological services as well as bereavement support. In October, a donation from the funds gathered during the month was also presented to the Action For Breast Cancer Foundation in light of Pink Oc- tober and topped up by Laferla to total €500. The Foundation offers support to patients suf- fering from breast cancer as well as to their families. "We really must recognise the efforts of our staff, who have made the initiative what it is today. We hope that everyone does their best to give back to others who need it the most, and that corporations invest in some sort of CSR, whether donations or voluntary service. Let's make sure 2021 starts on a positive note".
