Prof. Gauci has been the face of the government response to the pandemic, at one point giving daily news conferences on the latest updates. Earlier this week, critics had upbraided Gauci for not taking the vaccine. Yesterday ut was announced that 17,767 doses of the COV- ID-19 vaccine had been admin- istered so far. All patients at Ka- rin Grech hospital have received their first dose of the vaccine. In the past 24 hours there were 119 new cases of COVID-19, with 211 recoveries, bringing the number of active cases to 2,646. Total recoveries stand at 13,646 while total cases registered stand at 16,542. Two people died while infected with COVID-19. An 89 year-old woman dies at the Good Samar- itan long-term care facility and a 77-year-old man died at Ma- ter Dei Hospital during the last 24 hours. The total number of deaths stands at 250. 2,571 swab tests were carried out in the last 24 hours, bring- ing the total number of swabs to 586,434. Charmaine gets the jab
