maltatoday | SUNDAY • 7 FEBRUARY 2021 13 COMMERCIAL University-inspired competition shines spotlight on primary school children's creativity "SHINE at UM" is the theme of a newly-launched creativity competition aimed at primary school children, encouraging them to let their creativity flow and paint, sculpt or produce a concept that demonstrates what furthering their studies means to them, what they would like to study after they complete post-secondary education or de- picting their journey from pri- mary school up until University. The competition, which is be- ing organised by the University of Malta's Marketing, Commu- nication and Alumni Office, will see children aged between 8 and 10 coming up with orig- inal interpretations of the of- ficial tagline (#ShineatUM) currently being used across the University's social media channels (Facebook, Insta- gram, Twitter and LinkedIn). Entries will be judged on five criteria, namely the clarity of the theme, originality, quali- ty of artistic composition and overall design, material used and how well the tagline will complement the artwork. The top three entries will eventually be used in a nation- wide campaign by the Univer- sity of Malta. The first, second and third place entries will receive a €200, €150 and €100 book voucher respectively. All children participating in this competition need parental or guardian consent to submit their entry which needs to be received by the UM by not later than 31 March 2021. Pierre Cassar, Director of the Marketing, Communica- tions and Alumni Office, said "although primary school stu- dents are still some years away from enrolling at UM, we are interested in learning more about how youngsters perceive our institution and what they consider higher education to be all about". Participation is free of charge. Students need to fill- in the participation form and attach the consent form duly signed by a parent or guardi- an. Each submission needs to be accompanied by a tagline (maximum of five words, in English). Further information can be found online. New I-Portunus call for literary translations, music and architecture THE mobility programme i-Portunus has just issued an- other call for artists in literary translation and music and for the first time ever, architects. The scheme continues to sup- port the mobility of artists, cre- ators and cultural professionals among all countries participat- ing in the Creative Europe Pro- gramme. Launched as a pilot project last year, I-Portunus has successfully funded mobilities for artists from various genres. The i-Portunus mobility scheme is needed now more than ever to address the exist- ing and new needs of the cre- ative sectors by offering a de- mand-driven mobility scheme that allows direct application through a straightforward and flexible process. i-Portunus' main focus is to connect artists and to support international collaborations, professional development and production-oriented res- idencies. This will be done via physical mobility but also, if necessary, by virtual or blend- ed mobility variations. i-Portunus foresees a total budget of EUR 500,000 spread over the upcoming five calls. Financial support will exist out of a fixed amount per applicant for transportation and a per diem, depending on the des- tination country. Applicants should organize a project with a host institution/partner/fel- low in another Creative Europe country. Interested applicants are encouraged to visit the da- tabase of Transartists https:// www.transartists.org/category/ free-tagging/i-portunus, where host organisations that pre- viously welcomed i-Portunus grantees are highlighted. The application should include a description of the project and its main objective, being in- ternational collaboration, pro- duction-oriented residency, or professional development. The application should also pro- vide documents showing com- mitment from a partner to the proposed project. The deadline for applications in literary translation and mu- sic is 28 February 2021 and 14 March 2021 for architec- ture.
