maltatoday | SUNDAY • 14 FEBRUARY 2021 5 ART Antje Liemann imagining a post- human world at MUŻA ARTIST Antje Liemann pre- sents her second solo exhibition in Malta, with a multi-discipli- nary project, which imagines landscapes without the pres- ence of humankind. In this, the third exhibition at MUŻA's Community Space, Liemann takes our recent lockdowns and quarantines as the starting point for imagining a differently calibrated world, and exploring the possibility of the end of hu- mankind's domination over the earth. Liemann, who studied at the Dresden University of Fine Arts, has worked with climate experts, economists and oth- er artists to ask if there is still time left to rethink our rela- tionship with the world, or if our belief in the sovereignty of humankind has brought us to the brink of collapse of our liv- ing conditions. Through large- scale paintings, objet-trouvé installations and a film doc- umentary, Liemann imagines post-human and post-Anthro- pocene scenarios – including a Malta colonised by bee-like hybrid beings and once-extinct colossal orchids. A series of free painting and creativity workshops accom- panies the exhibition, inviting participants to take this 'tem- porary closure of the world' as a starting point for the crea- tion of objects or paintings un- der the guidance of the artist. These will take place on Satur- day 13, Saturday 20, Saturday 27 March, and Saturday 3 April from 10am – 1pm. The artist will be at the exhi- bition to discuss her work on Saturday 6, Sunday 7 March and Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 April, from 10am – 1pm. The project is supported by Arts Council Malta's Malta Arts Fund - Project Support Grant, and by the Embassy of Germany in Malta.
