maltatoday | SUNDAY • 28 FEBRUARY 2021 4 CULTURE Bulgarian-Maltese soprano Andriana Fenech Yordanova to perform at operatic Concert in March Opera Highlights will include performances from Bulgarian- Maltese soprano Andriana Fenech Yordanova, tenor Andrei Daranyi and pianist Maria- Elena Farrugia EUROPEAN Foundation for Support of Culture will be host- ing a concert entitled Opera Highlights at the Westin Darag- onara on 20 March. The concert will include Bul- garian-Maltese soprano Andri- ana Fenech Yordanova, tenor Andrei Daranyi and pianist Maria-Elena Farrugia. Angelo Muscat and Georg Zammit, two young tenors from the Malta School of Mu- sic, will also appear. The concert features a pro- gramme of works in the Lyr- ic Opera tradition, including pieces by Verdi, Puccini, Mas- senet, Leoncavallo, Tchaik- ovsky, Lehar and others. The event features Andriana Fenech Yordanova, a soprano originally from Bulgaria, who, since 2001, has made Malta her second home. Also featured is Romanian tenor Andrei Daranyi and Maltese pianist Maria-Elena Farrugia. Andriana Fenech Yordanova has considerable performance experience in addition to her varying educational activities. Her past outings include con- certs performed for the Presi- dent of Malta and prime minis- ter and numerous appearances abroad such as the Sofia Music Weeks Festival in 2019. She has performed with not- ed conductors, including Brian Schembri, Michael Laus, Da- miano Binetti, Alexey Nyaga, Christopher Muscat, Colin At- tard, Franchesco Falci, Alexey Galea Cavallazzi, and Wayne Marshall, among others. Mak- ing her debut in Puccini's La Boheme at Bourgas Opera Theatre in 1995, she followed this, playing the role of Fiordil- igi in Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte the following year at the Varna Opera House, and in 2019 was nominated for a Crystal Lyre Award in Bulgaria. The rehearsal for the concert will be filmed for release on TVM, with viewers treated to an inside look at the creative process behind this intriguing concert offering, as well as in- cluding interviews and pre- views of the works featured in the performance.
