This is the first time that the trust rating of a Labour leader has fallen below the 40% mark since October 2017. Abela loses almost two points since last month's survey at a time when the country is battling a surge in coronavirus infections. Support for the Labour Party stands at 39.2%, its worst result since the last general election, the March MaltaToday survey shows. The PL loses almost two points since last month's survey as the d o w n w a r d trend that started in December continues to hound the governing party. Support for the Nationalist Party now stands at 32.6%, a marginal decrease of 0.4 points, leaving it in a static position despite the PL's slide. ADPD registers 1.7%, an in- crease of one percentage point over last month's survey. Taking into account the actual performance of the political par- ties in the last general election as a starting point and using the sur- vey results on how people voted back then and how they will vote now, shows the PL ahead with just under 23,000 votes. In the 2017 general election, the PL surpassed the PN by 35,280 votes. PGS 8-9 €1.95 Did the virus pit the young against the older generations? 14-15 MATTHEW VELLA THE government is plan- ning to amalgamate all laws concerning hunting and bird trapping in one single Act that will extricate wildlife protection from the Environ- ment and Protection Act. The Hunting and Captur- ing of Wild Birds and Wild Rabbit Act will fall under the purview of the minister responsible for the hunting and capturing of wild birds and wild rabbit, which is currently Gozo minister Clint Camilleri. Despite all matters con- cerning hunting fall under the minister responsible for environmental protec- tion, as laid down by the European Union's Birds Directive, the over-arching law regulating hunting, the government plans to hive off all new hunting rules un- der a specifically designated 'hunting minister'. The entire law is designed to move all subsidiary legis- lations related to birds from under the Environment Pro- tection Act into the Hunting and Capturing of Wild Birds and Wild Rabbit Act. Hunting minister's powers to usurp bird conservation remit in new law A new law will formalise the role of a minister for hunting and consolidate all legislation away from environment protection and into the hands of the new minister
