The commissioner's office had highlighted funding issues and political partisanship in Repubblika's organ- isations, arguing that they are functioning as a private interest foundation and not a voluntary organisation. In the judicial protect, Repubblika call this behaviour "illegal and anti-constitutional", while formally asking that the commissioner withdraw its threat to de-list the NGO and acknowledge that the assertions are un- founded. "Such a letter is not acceptable in a democratic so- ciety. It is an insult that the government office that is supposed to be strengthened by civil society tells us to 'lower the volume' so that we can survive," a Repubbli- ka statement reads. The NGO yesterday held a press conference reiterat- ing their demands, themselves threatening to mobilise public opinion if the commissioner fails to withdraw its warning. Repubblika President Robert Aquilina had pointed out that the Commissioner approved the statute and personally confirmed in meetings throughout previous months that the NGO is fully compliant with the law, signalling a recent change of heart from the office. Repubblika President Robert Aquilina Repubblika files judicial protest against NGO commissioner The commissioner asked the NGO to 'regulate itself ' and act in terms of the law, citing funding issues and political partisanship i FreeDailyCrosswords.com ACROSS----------- 1) Furry or ight l 6) Kind of vibes? 9) Vocal quality 14) Sound portion of a broadcast 15) Shelley output 16) Poetic metrical units 17) Squeeze out water, as of clothes 18) Run-down pencil 19) Pass, as a law 20) Firehouse sight 23) Provides pieces for? 24) On a wayward path 25) UN agcy. r workers 28) Is in the past 29) Sight the target 30) Pew attachment 32) Mishandled a pop-up, e.g. 34) Baldwin of TV and film 35) Art l deception SCAMMED 41) "_ Only Just Begun" 42) Snacks in shells 43) Tepid rating 47) Near sea level 48) Long-time Chinese leader 51) Prickly chestnut case (Var.) 52) Like a phoenix out of the ashes 54) Not eve for sure 55) Sneaky sales tactic 58) Make flush 60) Hawaiian ado ment 61) Hill ofa D.C. scandal 62) Fixture near a toilet 63) Clue analyzer, in slang 64) No-hit king Ryan 65) Church sections 66) Fido's scrap 67) What's in vogue B Tim Burr DOWN 1) Derisive laugh 2) City near Denver 3) Manners of speaking 4) Hockey-practice sites 5) Downward dog discipline 6) They serve without pay 7) All grown up 8) Leave, as a ship 9) Make a color l T-shirt 10) Wax's opposite 11) Texas panhandle city 12) A TV network 13) Weste movie command 21) Nigerian dollar 22) Football legend Marino 26) Evil look 27) "The Lord of the Rings" soldiers 29) "_ we there yet?" 31) Co field array 32) Anagram r "seek" 33) Banned insecticide, r short 35) Use a mop (Var.) 36) It's got od all over it 37) Blows it on "The Price Is Right" 38) Put a curse on 39) Sacred pictures 40) Ticket designation 44) Adulterates 45) College major 46) Venice's oldest bridge 48) Capable of movement 49) Trig nction 50) At one's disposal 53) Elvis impersonator's expression 54) Juvenile 56) Pulitzer Prize-winning author James 57) Desire or require 58) Lawyer's org. 59) It's right under your nose 26th August FreeDailyCrosswords.com ACROSS-------- --- I) Glitterati 6) Kerplunk 10) Starter for "chute" or "sail" 14) Elizabeth of cosmetics 15) "Tomb Raider" superhero 16) Ear-related 17) Law of the jungle 20) Come to understand 21) They may be black-eyed 22) Churchill successor 23) Smoke detectors 25) Single and double, e.g. 26) Pressing letters 28) Kingly trappings 32) Natalie and the old king 34) Large-scale 35) Word with "date" or "process" 38) Halloween tradition GETTING CHOOSY 1s 2T 3A 4R ss 1A R 1$ u 2A 2$ 3t R I E R 42) Memb. of Congress 43) Machu Picchu resident 44) Lady vampire 45) Forms mental pictures 48) No longer working (Abbr.) 49) Await 51) Ancient Roman calendar day 53) Heart up one's sleeve? 55) Source of trouble 56) However briefly? 59) Using any means 62) Descried 63) Capital of Cambodia? 64) 38th parallel peninsula 65) A Dumas 66) Captain's heading 67) Run down T I T L I M I s N I C H G A K 0 RE A 67S E E DY DOWN I) Be bratty with 2) Like a sharpshooter's 3) Trademark 4) Gun an engine 5) Cuts 6) "The magic 7) Ho Chi Minh 8) Bobby of hockey 9) Smurf elder 10) Shakespearean 11) To one side 12) Ascends 13) Head woe 18) Make a sharp 19) Practicing moral 24) Famous cartel 26) Takes the bull 27) Still aching 29) Determine 30) Tax time (Abbr.) 3 l) It's not to be 33) Old word after 35) Five-and- I 0 36) Motel room 37) Euphemistic 39) It contains 40) Company whose 41) Scale a ustment 45) Chant in an 46) Make possible 4 7) NC competitor 49) Check entry 50) Upper atmosphere 52) Scrawny chicken 53) 1/2 fl. oz. 54) Stew ingredient 55) Fonda's role 57) Freed of weeds 58) In decent shape 60) Dressing ingredient 61) Lobster eggs
