Aaron Farrugia, Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Planning Aaron Farrugia, said that the area is in the vicinity of the Tal-Aħrax Camping sites, and that it will provide a better environment for the commu- nity, for campers, picnickers, visitors and the general public. This initiative also complements the Planning Authority's Discussion Paper on Camping, Caravanning and Picnicking Sites on the Maltese Is- lands. "The restoration of degraded land, as well as limiting illegal access of ve- hicles in natural and protected areas through afforestation and habitat res- toration techniques is fundamental to support people's rights to enjoy Mal- ta's rural areas", Farrugia said. The area is a Natura 2000 site pro- tected under the Special Protection Area and the Site of Community Im- portance. "The planting of 1,000 indigenous trees is another part of the many ongoing works and initiatives that the ministry, together with Ambjent Malta and other stakeholders, are im- plementing in order to continue im- proving the natural environment for our communities. And we need to do more, because that is what the people deserve. We have heard the call for more and better managed green spac- es and recreational areas, and we are acting on it", Farrugia said. Interventions are being carried out in an area of 5,000 metres squared and include the restoration of rubble walls, the removal of fly-tipped ma- terial including waste and the illegal stone BBQs, and the removal of inva- sive and non-native Acacia trees. In addition, approximately 1,000 in- digenous trees were planted. The main objective of this exercise is to restore degraded land and reduce soil erosion resulting from soil compaction due to trampling and vehicular access. Farrugia said that around 21,808 trees were planted by Ambjent Mal- ta in 2020, an increase over the pre- vious years. He said that government is shifting towards greener and more sustainable planning with a focus on both rural and urban areas, as the cli- mate change challenge and the need to improve quality of life and protect our natural heritage is more urgent than ever. 1,000 trees planted at L-Ahrax tal-Mellieha, various interventions ongoing Environment minister Aaron Farrugia i FreeDailyCrosswords.com ACROSS----------- 1) Furry or ight l 6) Kind of vibes? 9) Vocal quality 14) Sound portion of a broadcast 15) Shelley output 16) Poetic metrical units 17) Squeeze out water, as of clothes 18) Run-down pencil 19) Pass, as a law 20) Firehouse sight 23) Provides pieces for? 24) On a wayward path 25) UN agcy. r workers 28) Is in the past 29) Sight the target 30) Pew attachment 32) Mishandled a pop-up, e.g. 34) Baldwin of TV and film 35) Art l deception SCAMMED 1H 2A 31 4R S y 1A u D I w R I N 2 0 0 2h R M A s D E P S E 41) "_ Only Just Begun" 42) Snacks in shells 43) Tepid rating 47) Near sea level 48) Long-time Chinese leader 51) Prickly chestnut case (Var.) 52) Like a phoenix out of the ashes 54) Not eve for sure 55) Sneaky sales tactic 58) Make flush 60) Hawaiian ado ment 61) Hill ofa D.C. scandal 62) Fixture near a toilet 63) Clue analyzer, in slang 64) No-hit king Ryan 65) Church sections 66) Fido's scrap 67) What's in vogue D u L B Tim Burr 9 T 1A 1 1b 16 1 A M B I E R L E C R N I T C H ITA L AN E N D DOWN 1) Derisive laugh 2) City near 3) Manners of 4) Hockey-practice 5) Downward 6) They serve 7) All grown 8) Leave, as 9) Make a color 10) Wax's opposite 11) Texas panhandle 12) A TV network 13) Weste movie 21) Nigerian dollar 22) Football legend 26) Evil look 27) "The Lord 29) "_ we there 31) Co field 32) Anagram 33) Banned insecticide, 35) Use a mop 36) It's got od 37) Blows it on 38) Put a curse 39) Sacred pictures 40) Ticket designation 44) Adulterates 45) College major 46) Venice's oldest 48) Capable of 49) Trig nction 50) At one's disposal 53) Elvis impersonator's 54) Juvenile 56) Pulitzer Prize-winning 57) Desire or 58) Lawyer's 59) It's right under i FreeDailyCrosswords.com ACROSS----------- 1) SFO watchdog 4) Gave power to 11) Poem of homage 14) Ones who are elected 15) Aquarium fish 16) Play to the camera 17) Put an end to 19) Common conjunction 20) Running great Zatopek 21) They think they own the road 22) Gal Friday 23) Basutoland, today 26) Diminutive beings 27) They may be pardoned 31) Comer letter? 32) Conce ing ears 33) Lament 34) Priests' garments 37) Stranded like Gilligan 39) Units of radiation 40)_ step rther 41) Knot in yarn 42) Bearded beast of A ica 44) Breaks between acts 48) Prefix meaning "four" 49) Going on rever 52) A continent 53) Tim Duncan is one 56) Spot in a crowd 57) Pool water tester 58) Remote ature 61) Trio in summertime 62) Collection of weaponry 63) Small bit of work 64) Ready-go go-between 65) Have a difference of opm1on 66) Fourth of September?
