KURT SANSONE ROBERT Abela's trust rating has bounced up seven points since March to climb to 47.2%, while Ber- nard Grech scored his highest trust rating at 35.8%, an increase of one point. But the trust gap between the lead- ers has more than doubled to 11 points as a result of Abela's substan- tial recovery. Labour has also reversed a down- ward trend in the polls, now with support at 41.8%, but the PN stands at 35.6%, its best result since 2017. The PN's support increased by three points, while the PL's support went up by 2.6 points. Taking into account the actual per- formance of the political parties in the last general election as a start- ing point and using the survey results on how people vot- ed back then and how they will vote now, shows the PL ahead with just under 26,000 votes. In the 2017 gen- eral election, the PL surpassed the PN by 35,280 votes. The former police chief called Brincat, a known confidant of middleman Melvin Theuma, on the night of 14 June 2020 at 7:55pm, and spent 14 minutes in conversation with him. The next day, Cutajar testified in the compilation of evidence, after which the presiding mag- istrate ordered that he be for- mally investigated on allega- tions that he tipped off Theuma about ongoing investigations back in 2019. On that same day, 15 June, the court also heard testimony from Edgar Brincat, a friend of both Cutajar and Theuma, who insisted both men did not know each other. According to sources close to the investigation, Cutajar called Brincat from a location in Luqa; Brincat was in Attard at that point. Contacted on Saturday, Cuta- jar said he was aware that Brin- cat's telephone "could be under observation". "I do not remember why I would have called him. If anything, the fact that I did call him knowing his line would be under observation, shows that I have nothing to hide."
