2 maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 28 APRIL 2021 NEWS NICOLE MEILAK EPIC has begun the roll-out of its 'Fibre Network of the Fu- ture', which is set to provide download speeds of 2,000 meg- abytes per second to house- holds in Malta. Launched for households and businesses in Mosta, this Fibre Network will allow consumers to download a 5GB file, equiv- alent to over five hours of Net- flix movie streaming, in under a minute. The new Epic 2000Mbps ser- vice is available immediately, starting at €24.99 per month. A separate package will be avail- able for business customers, allowing for double the upload speeds and Dedicated Business Support. Epic's CEO Tamas Banyai described the launch as a mile- stone for Malta. "After recently kicking off our Mobile Network Mod- ernisation programme, we are now launcing Malta's fastest home and office broadband at unrivalled value," Banyai said. "We continue to deliver on our 'Great Network, Great Value' promise." Another product, Epic's Fibre Box, was exhibited during the launch, boasting of "advanced multimedia features" and 100% recyclable plastic. Economy Minister Silvio Schembri remarked how Epic will be focusing on strength- ening their workforce through the creation of new job op- portunities, student intern- ship programmes, and flexible working conditions. "We are looking at the di- versification of the Maltese economy into technologically advanced sectors. Priority will be given to the communica- tions sector as this supports the growth of other sectors," Schembri said. Of which, 102,535 were second doses. Total recoveries stand at 29,421 while total cases registered stand at 30,234. There are 400 active COVID-19 cases. No deaths were registered in the last 24-hours.
