maltatoday | SUNDAY • 23 MAY 2021 15 COMMERCIAL Urban Planning Concept Award Winning Submission A village amidst the landscape - Ms Daniela Spiteri Binett The project comprises a vi- sion to reconnect the settle- ment of Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq with the sea and promotes the use of collaborative design whereby road infrastructure also engag- es planners and urban design- ers. It is also an example of how to spatially integrate outlying urban settlements through un- derground links and showcas- es how civil engineering can have a positive social impact by promoting better links and a healthier lifestyle. Special commendations Integrated Transport Strategy for Valletta – Grand Harbour Rehabilitation Corporation This is an actual planning pro- ject, of strategic importance for Valletta. The strategy proposes a well-thought-out transfor- mation for the city based on in- tegrated planning. The project serves as a good springboard for discussion towards improv- ing one's experience of Malta's capital city. Gzira Gardens Marina - Stud- jurban This is a good example of a public project, showcasing what can be conceptualised for Malta and Gozo's many water- fronts to make them attractive public spaces which can be en- joyed by all, and at different times of day. It is felt that the project also prompts the possi- bility of realising such projects through user-funding by, for example, charging a fee from user groups such as yacht own- ers who berth their yachts at the marina.
