maltatoday | SUNDAY • 30 MAY 2021 17 COMMERCIAL Clamtech was established in 2009 offer- ing IT consultancy and services. What is it that makes you stand out among the competition? Clamtech aims to be a one stop shop in terms of IT services offered. We have pro- fessional and certified personnel that will gladly help in any way possible to ensure all our clients are satisfied. We aim to be the IT Team for clients that do not have one, and the consultants for larger clients that have an in-house team but may require help in specific projects. How has your company's service portfo- lio evolved over the years? Back in 2009 Clamtech started off with a workforce of 3 people, and mostly offered office support services. Throughout the years our experience has grown, our team has evolved, and our service portfolio has been enhanced with a multitude of different offerings. Nowadays we're capable of han- dling practically any IT related task, and we can offer a single point of reference for es- sentially any technical request or issue that a client may face. Also, through key partner- ships that we have established with foreign partners such as IONOS Cloud, we can also help local companies to expand internation- ally. What led to the partnership with IONOS Cloud? Our partnership with IONOS Cloud start- ed in 2019 and has grown exponentially in a short period of time. The partnership start- ed off from a mutual requirement. IONOS were looking for a technical partner within the EMEA region, and Clamtech were look- ing for a cloud provider which could provide a stable and reliable service and competitive pricing. We both hit the ground running and saw the potential in evolving this part- nership. As of today, we are happy to have migrated quite a number of Maltese based companies onto IONOS Cloud with no complaints whatsoever. IONOS have in turn helped us in expanding our company name internationally, and we're actively helping out a large number of internation- al clients that have been introduced to us through IONOS's help. Why should a company move to cloud technology? What are the benefits? There are a multitude of benefits that can be obtained if a business opts to use cloud services. First and foremost, it's the ease of having remote access to your data and serv- ers. As COVID-19 has shown throughout this past year and a half, the need for remote access has become essential for business continuity. Ensuring that the company's staff are able to work from home, or any- where with an Internet connection has now become a key necessity for any business, be it large or small. Another key aspect is the scalability that the cloud offers. In the past when all sys- tems were kept on-site, when purchasing a system, we needed to think ahead and plan for growth, so that the hardware obtained can sustain it. This obviously added a hefty cost to the initial expenditure required. The cloud allows us to scale up our systems' per- formance or increase our storage space in a matter of seconds. This means that we can start off as small as required, and scale up when the business starts to grow. The above leads us onto yet another bene- fit of the cloud, which is the cost savings that it can offer to a business. The initial costs to setup a system have been greatly reduced, as a company starting up does not need to think about costs relating to hardware such as servers to run the needed applications, or storage systems where its files are stored. The cloud allows a company to simply start deploying and storing data and pay for what it actually uses. For example, IONOS Cloud provide per hour billing, which means that if a company needs a temporary solution, the charges incurred will only be for the time used. There are no contracts tying a compa- ny in to a yearly agreement which provides further peace of mind to the company using this service. Is cloud technology a one-size-fits-all solution or does each client get a tailored service depending on their needs and growth projections? In our opinion there are no one-size-fits- all solutions. Whenever a client reaches out to us we make sure to understand the business itself, and how the processes are performed. From there we will be able to propose and create a tailor-made service which performs to the exact requirement of the client. Growth projections are always factored in when designing a system for a client, however this has been made a lot eas- ier than how it used to be a few years ago since Cloud services allow for practically instant upgrades meaning that a client can start with a system that can address his im- mediate needs and being capable of growing in direct proportion of his business. How do you see this sector developing in the next five years? And the next 10 years? We strongly believe that in the coming years we will see a greater drive towards Cloud technologies. In the past year, due to the global pandemic, we have noticed that the perception of the Cloud has changed. Businesses are appreciating more and more the benefits that can be obtained. Within 10 years, the Cloud will have made businesses having self-hosted systems something for the history books and working from practi- cally anywhere without being tied to a phys- ical location will be the new norm. Established in 2009, Clamtech is now a growing, dynamic company made up of an energetic team of IT professionals, offering consultancy, strategic upgrades on existing servers & networks and any IT requirements. It has now partnered up with IONOS Cloud to bring the European cloud alternative to Malta.
