His repertoire includes two violin concertos, four piano concertos, a cantata and two symphonies as well as numerous works for orchestra both with and without voice. Based in Paris, Karl is also the artistic director of the International Spring Orchestra Festival, which runs from 15 to 19 June. Nobody can take what you'll ever learn away from you. What do you never leave the house without? Appropriate attire. Pick three words that describe yourself. Empathetic but self-centred. What do you consider to be your greatest achievement? My creations. What is your guiltiest pleasure? Lunchtime indulgence with [so- prano] Claire Debono. What is the most important lesson life has taught you? There's no solution. Property and cars aside what's the most expensive thing you've ever bought? My piano. What is one thing you wish you knew when you were younger? The future. Who's your inspiration? Albert Schweitzer. What has been your biggest challenge? Not calling it a day. If you weren't a composer, what would you be doing? Can't imagine myself doing any- thing else. Do you believe in God? I'm agnostic. If you could have dinner with any person, dead or alive, who would it be? Franz Liszt. What's your worst habit? Procrastinating. What are you like when you're drunk? Too drunk to remember. Who would you have play you in a film? Movies about today's struggling artists in Paris don't seem to be in fashion any more. What is the trait you most deplore in others? Apathy. What music would you have played at your funeral? If my funeral would take place in Malta John Cage's '4'33"' in loop mode. Being pushed on a sunny day in a pram. When did you last cry, and why? 18 May 2017, my closest friend died from one day to the next. Who would you most like to meet? A Muse. What's your favourite food? I don't have any. It changes constantly, for example last month it was Halloumi salad, last week it was filet of tuna. Who's your favourite person on social media right now? I don't follow anyone. If you could travel in time, where would you go? Turn of the 20th century. What book are you reading right now? Lara Calleja's 'Lucy Min?' and 'Kissirtu Kullimkien'. If you could have any superpow- er, what would it be? Healing. What's one thing you want to do before you die? Compose nine symphonies. What music are you listening to at the moment? Mahler's Symphonies, Prokofiev's Piano Sonatas. In the shower or when you're working out, what do you sing/ listen to? I can't listen passively to music; I either listen or not.
