14 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 13 JUNE 2021 EYEWITNESS Wave runner The new fast-ferry service to Gozo was launched just under two weeks ago and is already revolutionising the way Maltese people travel. The service uses terminal facilities in Gozo's Mgarr harbour and Lascaris Wharf in Valletta, built following a €5 million investment by the government, to transport foot passengers between the islands in under 45 minutes. Use of the fast ferry could save up to 500 hours per year or two hours every day for Gozo residents, according to operators Gozo Fast Ferries and Virtu Ferries. The two service providers use catamarans with a top speed of 32 knots and can seat 300 passengers. A linked smartphone app provides seamless booking and a reduced fare.
