Emvin Cremona artworks loaned to exhibition BANK of Valletta is supporting this year's edition of Din l-Art Ħelwa's Marine Photograph- ic Competition. Each year Din l-Art Ħelwa organises this com- petition as part of the organisa- tion's Blue Campaign, in its aim to raise awareness about the importance of safeguarding the beauty and state of the coastline and surrounding waters of the Maltese Islands. This year's edition will consist of two categories - Category A will relate to photos of sea pol- lution and any negative impacts caused by human activity on the local marine environment, whilst Category B will consist of photos showing the beauty of the underwater life around Mal- ta and Gozo. Cash prizes will be awarded to first and second place winners from both catego- ries. "It is our duty to convey the message that society as a whole is not doing enough to protect our marine and coastal environment for future generations," said Prof Alex Torpiano, Executive Pres- ident of Din l-Art Ħelwa. "This year we decided to show society two different aspects of the ma- rine environment. One is that of the appreciative and aesthetical- ly pleasing underwater life, while the other will portray the human impact on our marine environ- ment." "We always receive an encour- aging response from partici- pants to our annual Marine Pho- to-graphic Competition," said Dr Stanley Farrugia Randon, council member at Din l-Art Ħelwa. Each year the competi- tion serves as an educational in- itiative, attracting the interest of participants from diving schools, photography enthusiasts and those who have the environment at heart. "We would like to thank Bank of Valletta for supporting this initiative, as their help will be instrumental to better deliv- er the key message behind this competition." "We are proud to be support- ing this initiative as through the participants' snapshots, we shall be seeing the beauty of the un- derwater environment around our Islands but at the same time it will bring to the forefront the impact of human activity and behaviour on the environment that surrounds us," said Charles Azzopardi, Executive CSR & Communication at Bank of Valletta. The Bank has recently embarked on a journey to align its Community Relations pro- gramme to an ESG vision, to ac- celerate sustainability in both its CSR ventures as well as its suite of products. "Among other UN Sustainable Development Goals, 'Life below Water' is one goal we're giving fundamental im- portance to. By supporting this year's Din l-Art Ħelwa Marine Photographic Com-petition, we are backing this hardworking organisation in its ongoing Blue Campaign." Your snapshot can further educate viewers on the urgent need to safeguard the marine environment. Those interested in participating are to submit their entry by sending an email on admin@dinlarthelwa.org by not later than the 30th Septem- ber 2021.
